The vacation starts now!

Yep, no more work until July 6. But for now, a few pointless leftovers from the last few days.

- New Hyrule Warriors update which implements compatibility with the DS version... which doesn't come out until next year. In the meantime, everyone gets a free costume for Link. Incredibly small balance changes too: Sheik's C2 deals slightly more damage (correct me if I'm wrong, but everyone uses it because you need to use it to refresh your water shield, NOT for the damage), and Twili Midna can dodge cancel out of her C2 slightly faster. Sure, let's buff two of the best characters in the game and NOT fix the Rupee glitch.

- Speaking of Hyrule Warriors, apparently it's a crime to have bought it just because it's a Zelda game. And you know what? I'm going to put my hands up and say guilty as charged. Does it mean it was a bad purchase and I regret it? Oh hell no.

- With King Daphnes in the DS version, I can't be the only one who wants a CD-I based costume. Not gonna happen, but I can dream, right?

- GameFAQs' description of the game says: "Play as fan-favorite characters like Link and Impa for the first time in the series!" I'm hesitating between the obvious "umm, we've played as Link a million times before" and the equally obvious "but not THIS Link, am I right?". But claiming the latter means this Link, being in his first game, is NOT, in fact, a fan-favorite since he's brand new and my brain just shut down.

- The new MD4 trailer confirms that it's indeed a brand new game and not a remake, and that the personality quiz is entirely optional. FUCK YES. Now the question is, why did they bother implementing the quiz to start with? Do they really expect anyone to leave their starter up to chance when given the option to just pick it and be done with it? As an insignificant side note, I know this is unlikely to be what the final game will be like, but holy hell those level 50 Pokémon have low HP.

- You know what I want to see return in MD4? Pokémon-specific equipment. Some of the better ones had amazing effects, like those that restored HP when hit with a move of a certain type (usually one that's super-effective on the Pokémon in question to boot). Most legendaries also had insanely good items that made them totally broken. I want that back!

- Is it normal that when I saw this, the first thing I thought was "well that's one way to implement pay-to-win" because of Aeris' broken-ass limit breaks? I'm so nerdy I'm starting to scare myself. (Seriously though, Square gave her these limit breaks for a reason.)

  1. Different subject but... I don't think I'm surprised this has happened.

    1. I have also found said petition, but I don't know if I should post it

    2. Yeah, I saw it yesterday, and you and I both know it's not gonna work. This thing's gonna come out whether we want it or not.

    3. Well having seen what the producer of Metroid Prime has said, I am more forgiving of the game honestly.

    4. But no one will have played this spin-off that sets the stage for future events. Not to mention, after Fusion and Other M I don't think anyone wants anything to do with the Federation.

    5. The federation have been utter jerks. However, all is not lost. Samus is going to appear in some way apparently.

    6. Well too bad Samus' presumed (and now confirmed false) absence was only one of the million points of contention about this game. When you try getting back up from a disaster like Other M, you basically have one chance, only one, to get back up firmly on your feet. And to do that, you have to throw everything you have into this last-ditch attempt. That's not what's happening right now, not even close.

    7. Oh, and I should say this holds especially true when you stay in radio silence mode for FIVE YEARS. That's probably the worst part, and what honestly ticks me off the most about this. Had this been announced in 2011 or 2012, this would've been fine. After five years, you kind of expect them to prepare something big. Really, really big.

  2. I think what GameFAQs means is that you can play as Zelda characters for the first time in the Dynasty Warriors series.

  3. That cartoon gave me an idea. What if they implement a way to bring Aeris back through one of those ways people used to spread around the internet?

  4. Ok so this isn't super relevant but I'm almost at the scene where Aeris dies. Is it bad that I care more about what will happen to her inventory than her being killed? Also what does happen to her equips and stuff?

    1. You lose whatever weapon and armor she had equipped, but keep her accessory and materia.

  5. Actually, looking at the Treehouse Live footage they showed of PSMD this morning, they stated that the personality quiz IS in fact mandatory. Just that if you don't like what its results, you are free to choose whichever one you want. Same goes for the partner. So you still have to waste time on the quiz, but at least you don't have to go through an even more tedious process of resetting to get the one starter you want.

    1. My point still stands, though. The quiz is still useless, and I don't imagine many people would like leaving their starter pick to chance.

    2. You'd be surprised at how many comments on that video were confusingly asking if the quiz was there or not and specifically mentioning that they hoped it was. (Obviously, had they watched for 1 more minute, they would have heard the animators of the showcase saying that they simply skipped it because they wanted to keep the questions secret, but hey, Youtube commenters' attention span, amirite?)

    3. Clearly they never got stuck with Phanpy in MD2.

    4. I dunno, I like the idea of the quiz. I just don't like how you have to do it twenty times until the game coughs up Cubone. Getting rid of that "twenty times" thing would be interesting in that I get to see what the game WANTS to lump me with, but then I can still pick something else (thinking Riolu on this one, it worked extraordinarily well in Sky and I think another go around might be prudent. Unless one of the new starters would be broken in the system...)

But then, I loved Friend Areas while you hate them, so it's clear we're at an impasse on this one.

    5. I wanna see what Water Shuriken does. It has the potential to be a Water-type Bullet Seed. Greninja also gets stuff like Blizzard and Dark Pulse via TM, and there's Smokescreen too.

Welp. Seems like you were absolutely spot on, Slow. They DO intend to try to pull off another Wii miracle. Reggie also implied that the 3 big company branches are actively participating in its development. Something the article seems to have glossed over. Because considering how out of touch Japanese companies like Nintendo are with the western market, having NoA and NoE's participation might actually potentially be beneficial.

    1. Looks like they're intent on not repeating the mistakes the likes of Sega, Capcom and Konami made. You'd have to be blind to not notice how Japanese gaming collapsed and why.

With that said, it's one thing to use worldwide expertise, but it's another to actually have it be effective enough to bring results. We'll see how that goes in another couple years.
