Did they just give Genesect Shift Gear?

And Blaze Kick, too, but Shift Gear... man. There's no way this is coming back to OU in the foreseeable future. Heck, right now it's #4 on the uber ladder. I'm wondering where it'll end up after that...

  1. Watch it be a forced Modest nature or a forced Brave nature. Also, keep in mind Genesect's competition. Arceus and Kyogre are staying where they are until Gen 6. Mewtwo and Groudon are fighting over the third spot...

  2. Well, Genesect was mostly used as a U-turner and Special attacker due to the superior special movepool. But now, with these event moves, it can now be a fearsome physical attacker. And they did also just give it Extremespeed, which is always an amazing move to have. None of the pokemon that get it are bad, and the only real pokemon who doesn't use Extremespeed that gets it is Togekiss.

  3. And be thankful they didn't decide to give Genesect Shell Smash. If Genesect got Shell Smash... it would be Armageddon.

  4. Shift Gear is sorta cool if you want to sweep with Genesect, but given its stiff competition for this role, I don't see it becoming its main set. This is Ubers we're talking about here. We have SD and DD Rayquaza, Extreme Killer Arceus, Shell Smash Omastar, and a bunch of other stuff that can tear apart teams better than Genesect can. There's no terribly good reason for it to use Blaze Kick when it could just U-Turn away to something that can take advantage of opposing Ferrothorn and Forretress, so that's a little pointless. Extremespeed is interesting, and may make Choice Band sets that much more viable. It still will have problems getting around Ghosts regardless, and 4 move slot syndrome means Shadow Claw will be tough to fit in a moveset. Genesect lacks good coverage moves on the physical side, and its defenses are as questionable as ever.

It could be worse, I guess. I'm not complaining that Genesect got some more interesting tools to work with. It's just that Genesect's U-Turn spam keeps such a lot of other nasty stuff in check and is fantastic for keeping up a team's momentum. It will probably just keep on doing what it does best.

  5. I just hope that they eventually give it to golurk. That and give klinklang an actual physical movepool so it can use it...

  6. More evidence that X and Y will do a re-vamp of the mechanics has emerged.

They've announced the English names of the newly released pokemon and moves shown in Corocoro.

The interesting thing is this though. According to Serebii, the english name of Erekiteru's (( Now called Helioptile )) signiture move is Parabolic Charge, which is 15 characters long. The character limit for moves until Gen 5 has been 12 characters, proved by Ancientpower and Thunderpunch being only 1 word

    1. Well, maybe not a full revamp, but still. why would they make a move with a name that goes over the normal character limit?

    2. Because they're expanding it, duh. Claiming it means anything else is such a dumb stretch in logic it belongs on Pokébeach.

    3. Yeah... I must have been half asleep when I wrote that.

But on something less dumb, Serebii.net has put up that Parting Shot, the move that lowered stas then causes the user to switch, lowers the target's Attack and Special Attack stats on the new page. Could be a new tool for Dual Screeners.
