Unpopular opinion time

Mega Charizard Y is what Charizard should've looked like from day one. It's actually somewhat appealing.

  1. Agreed. I prefer Mega Charizard Y's design to vanilla Charizard and Mega Charizard X.

  2. Both Mega Charizards are miles above the original. But yeah, Y was what Charizard should've been long ago. The same logic also applies to Alakazam. Although the original Alakazam wasn't bland.

  3. It's a little bit overdesigned, perhaps, but I like it over the original form besides the stupid-looking head spike. Can you imagine trying to fit all that detail on a RBY sprite, though? Most of the gen 1 and 2 Pokemon have relatively simple designs in part because they had more limited space and colors.

I definitely prefer MegaZardX, though. I'm a fan of black (Shiny Charizard and Shiny Rayquaza are my two favorite shinies) and blue flames, plus the flames trailing from the mouth just reek of excessive power, like Charizard has so much fire power at his disposal that wasted flame means nothing.

  4. I think some of the megas are just too overdesigned (Aggron and Tyranitar being the worst offenders here), but I do think both MegaZards look better than the original.

    1. So they're Kaiser Sigma from Mega Man X3. "It looks like someone started designing them, and they never f**king stopped."

    2. To be fair, it's hard not to go the overdesigning route when the base forms are already as badass-looking as Aggron or Tyranitar.
