Wow, modern gamers suck.

So apparently you don't get the full ending to Arkham Knight unless you complete the game 100%. And amazingly, it's getting some people all kinds of pissy. Oh, God forbid we get some kind of interesting reward for taking the time to do all the side stuff. It's something we don't see nearly enough these days. All you get most of the time is an achievement. Now I'm kind of an achievement whore myself, so it's not THAT bad, but it's nice to see a game actually giving you something meaningful for putting in the extra effort.

  1. Wow, that's sad. If they're so intent on never doing those side stuff, they might as well simply look up the full ending online when someone uploads it. That's the stupidest complaint I've ever seen.

  2. Were they that traumatized by Riddler and Hush? Hey, it's better than having to do that AND beat the hardest difficulty to get the true ending. Not everyone is content with just an achievement for getting all those collectibles. So, I feel it's a fair trade. You go after Riddler and stuff, and you get to save Gotham in the best way you can in the game...

  3. Meh, kinda torn on this. I'm a completionist, so it doesn't matter to me, and it's always nice to get a good reward for completion. On the other hand, not everybody plays like I do, and I don't think a true ending should be tied to a stretch goal like that. Especially since these sandbox games often have a load of filler crap that only appeals to completionists. There are better rewards for completion.

    1. To be fair, I have no idea exactly what changes, having not played the game. But it wouldn't make sense to have a perfect ending with, say, the Riddler still out there. You gotta take care of the guy, right?

  4. A lot of gamers just aren't completionists, and unlocking the "true" ending only by going after 100% completion is a pet peeve of mine. I don't know how difficult Arkham Knight is, but I'd be pretty pissed if the full ending of Xenoblade wasn't available until after all the quests were completed. I'm already bummed that because of a glitch, Replica Monado 4 can now only be done once the game randomly decides to make Avalanche Abaasy drop a Demonic Everflame (only a 45% chance, and Yoink always fails because of the level gap). Luckily, all the story is there for those who don't want to test their patience to the extreme!

If they made 100% completion easy enough in Arkham Knight for most casual players to enjoy the full story, then that would just make it that much less satisfying for the hardcore audience. If it were hard, then the casual fans would get angry. I don't really see how you don't make a big section of the playerbase mad by strongly encouraging 100% completion.

    1. If the first three games are any indication, it's not at all difficult. It's just kinda long, and involves huge amounts of puzzlesolving. There are no missables aside from some of Origins' Predator challenges, and there are ways to get collectibles marked on your map so all you have to do is solve the puzzles to get them instead of running around looking for them.
