Gen 2 starter hidden abilities: it's finally happening!

If you paid money to keep Pokémon Bank after the trial period, then all three can be yours starting on February 27! This would've made for a nice birthday present had I actually kept Bank, but oh well. I'll just look for some on the GTS like many did for Serperior.

All these recent developments really cracked down on the list of missing hidden abilities. The gen 1, 2 and 3 legendary trios, Heatran, Aurorus and the small and large Gourgeist varieties are the only ones left.

    1. Looks like your favorite Pokemon's going to become competent at long last.

  2. Well, now Feraligatr may actually be able to better compete with Gyarados now. Feraligatr was always in Gyarados's shadow and despite not having a Mega, I think Feraligatr has a few things over Gyarados.

1: Sheer Force is a great ability and Feraligatr can use things like Rock Slide and Ice Punch to abuse it.
2: Feraligatr has access to Swords Dance and Aqua Jet, moves Gyarados would really love. Especially Aqua Jet
3: Feraligatr has access to Superpower as well
4: Feraligatr lacks a weakness to Stealth Rock, which can really hurt Gyarados at times
5: Feraligatr has Ice Punch for ice coverage, while Gyarados is forced to use Ice Fang if it wants Ice coverage

I still agree that Gyarados is a better pokemon than Feraligatr, but I'm just saying Feraligatr has its advantages too.

    1. It wasn't ALWAYS in Gyarados's shadow, but it has been in every generation that wasn't its first.

That's more because Gen 2 Gyarados was shit, but still.

    2. Gyarados wouldn't give two shits about Swords Dance, because Dragon Dance would still be stapled on it even if it did learn Swords Dance. It also has secondary STAB, which Feraligatr would die for, and Mold Breaker has plenty of uses too. Not to mention getting an Intimidate off before going mega - as Mawile and Salamence taught us, it's incredibly useful at times. Also, Gyarados loses its Rock weakness when mega evolving. Of course it means you'll probably have to take super-effective damage once, but still. Besides, hazards are a bit less of a hassle with Defog around, as long as you keep an eye on Bisharp and the odd non-Prankster Thundurus-I.

Feraligatr has its advantages over Gyarados, sure. But so do Crawdaunt and Sharpedo, and they're not even in the same league.

    3. Mattman324 GSC Feraligatr still wasn't stellar. Special STAB, most offensive moves running off weaker Sp.Atk. stat. Generally more useful than Gyarados because of Earthquake, but being better than GSC Gyarados wasn't difficult when Gyarados could only use Normal type moves with its gigantic Attack stat and its Sp.Atk. was worse than mid-evos.

Comparing Feraligatr to Mega Gyarados is silly, of course Mega Gyarados is vastly superior, but Feraligatr does have a few assets over Gyarados. Secondary STAB on regular Gyarados is nonsense, because lolBounce.

  3. Quite depressing how they insist on keeping Meganium the laughing stock of all starters. Not that Overgrow is good on a wall/cleric thing, but at least it's got some potential use, unlike Leaf Guard. Using Meganium in sun seems pretty suicidal.

Flash fire isn't bad on Typhlosion or anything, but Stealth Rock does make Blaze a more dependable option in most cases. I don't see it making a huge splash whatsoever.

Sheer Force Feraligatr though, I think will be quite viable in OU. Even without Nidoking's endless sheer force move pool, life orb, swords/dragon dance, waterfall, ice punch and superpower is all it needs to blow a huge hole into most standards. Rotom-W and Mega Venusaur will still easily wall it, but a water type that can break Ferrothorn relatively easily is pretty damn cool.

    1. Their Megas need dual type. They're nice designs, but monotype is boring and hurts them.

  4. Am I missing something? I thought I bought PokeBank the first day it was available in the U.S. and I still have 29 days left on it.

    1. When you brought the pass, the pass's 365 days wouldn't have started counting down until the 30 day trial's days had counted down.

    2. I figured, I just imagined this was true for everyone so was confused why Slowflake already got rid of Bank. Should have been clearer about that ><

  5. Look at the movepool they gave the 3. It like they know only feraligatr is they only one that will be able to do any thing. But seriously, 3 fire moves on typhlosion and none of them are eruption. I think they gave feraligatr screech just to try to even it out considering what moves the other 2 got.

  6. It would be a minor convenience for Moltres and a lackluster gimmick for Aurorus to have their HA. And by lackluster, I mean noobs will use it to counter Pokemon with weather, and people who know better than that will just use Refrigerate. Or Mega Glalie...

    1. Powerful Ice-type Hyper Voice > induction of the worst weather in the game. If people want to use Hail, just use Mega Abomasnow.

Sad that Aurorus doesn't get Boomburst for example. Its only option is lolHyper Beam. Hyper Beam hits like a truck with Refrigerate, but it's, well, lolHyper Beam.
