I was reading up on Amiibos, trying to figure out what the hell they do, and... well, is it just me, or is $13 a pop a pretty big amount for what they do? Right now, we know they do:
- That Tamagotchi thing in SSB4
- Unlock extra outfits for Miis in MK8
- The Link one unlocks the Spinner for Link in Hyrule Warriors, presumably Zelda will get a similar treatment, and the others give rupees, materials and weapons (which you can find through normal gameplay anyway)
We also know they're going to be compatible with other games, like Mario Party 10 and Yoshi's Woolly World, as well as other yet-to-be-announced games. But still, that's $13 per figurine. Meaning that if you want to get your money's worth, you better have near every game that supports it, considering how uninteresting what we've seen so far sounds. Oh, and you just know some people will want to have every last one of them. Apparently the intention is for every character on the SSB4 roster to have its own Amiibo. That's 49 times $13, for a total of $637.
Yeah, I'll pass. The Spinner is the one thing I might have had an interest in, but for $13? It's not like Link has any shortage of weapons, and he's already got the Gauntlets covering the Lightning element anyway.
