Well, Sakurai contradicts himself and changes his mind so often that it's sort of hard to blame people for believing it might still happen. Still, there are few fanbases as gullible as SSB's, so some people will probably never stop believing.
That might be, but the time for indecision has passed. If he considered the possibility of making DLC, work would've already started on it. And even then, just adding Mewtwo (or any other character for that matter) legitimately seems to be a lot of work, as Sakurai pointed out. It was easy to see that it's not ready.
Even so, Sakurai seems to be a bit paranoid about the fan reaction, I'll give you that much. MK8's and Hyrule Warriors' DLC hardly feel like a scam, they legitimately feel like bonus content added on top of a full game. The one reason why people might give him crap is because they get the (wrong) impression that the Corner of Shame is taking the place of other characters that would've made it in had they not been there. So they might say, we wouldn't have to pay for these guys had the Corner of Shame not been there.
I'm pretty sure Sakurai is just ready to be done with Smash. Working on the game has cost him sleepless nights and taken his time so he can't be with his family from what I've read. I'll give him credit though, he's been working on making essentially 2 games to be released very close together, which has been a huge task. When the Mewtwo content is released, that guy deserves a long vacation.
Well, I mean, don't make it seem like Sakurai's the only guy working on Smash, Looneyman. There's a shit ton of other guys in the credits, and they sure as hell weren't there just so you can beat up their names.
Just so you know club nintendo uk just tweeted that we can buy mewtwo if we don't have both versions but I don't really think that means any further dlc will be in smash 4 necessarily
Well, pay-for DLC "for the moment"
ReplyDeleteThey can still have DLC. I mean, obviously, they are. Tournament mode, Mewtwo, etc
3DS still has stage dlc hooks, too

DeleteDidn't he say he was done with Smash after Brawl, though? I could've sworn I saw that somewhere.
DeleteI also remember hearing that, but there he was for SSB4.
DeleteI think he just said that he was making Brawl like it was his last smash game
