Who the fuck is Hatsune Miku?

And why should he/she/it be in SSB4?

  1. Does Vocaloid ring any bell? If not, just Google it. It's not like you'll be able to miss her.

  2. She's a manga figure. In terms of music she is quite famous and is used for games, mangas and CDs. In the last months the hype about her has increased. Why she should be in SSB4? Honestly I do not have a clue. Probably some people want to play with boobies or they want to raise the female quote. But the real answer I cannot tell you.

    1. So basically, the kiddies who wanted Goku to be in Brawl hit puberty. Is that about right?

    2. That's a way of putting it, only Miku doesn't exactly fight...

    3. In Bravely Default, many people consider one of the battles against an exclusively-singing character to be That One Boss. No excuses.

    4. Well...Miku's singing is just that. I'd assume the singing boss doesn't just sing uselessly, considering you just said a lot of people have trouble with it...

  3. She's that singing computer program that's a J Pop star.

...and the only game I know of for her was a pair of Rhytem Games for the PSP...

  4. Most famous Vocaloid. As they are...The only video games Miku appears in are rhythm games...
Hey, I have an impossible request for Smash too. I wanna see Reimu in Smash, but that's not happening. Even if Reimu's more likely than Miku because...Well, Reimu's been repeatedly shown FIGHTING. And we could customize her Final Smash...

    1. See, your point is made invalid when Wii Fit Trainer is available.

    2. Wii Fit Trainer also has the excuse of being owned by Nintendo. Miku, obviously, is not...

    3. And yet some people keep claiming she's the MOST WANTED newcomer by the SSB playerbase as a whole. Chrom? Shulk? Megaman? Even Ridley? Pffft, scrubs.

    4. I would imagine that a lot of people want ZERO in because Mega Man's in. I could go for Bass, personally...

  5. Does this have anything to do with that screenshot of the Rayman trophy? Because that's what it sounds like.

But yeah, Miku is a weird Japanese computer program/robot/hologram that sings J-Pop. One of many. Needless to say, she isn't a video game character, nor has she ever been associated with Nintendo. Just another one of those anime characters twelve-year-olds want added to Smash Bros. because Japanese = Nintendo. Clearly.

    1. Oh no, this whole Miku thing goes back way further than that.

    2. Actually, there are two rhythm games for the 3DS that star her, and a bunch of other Vocaloids. So technically, she's been on a Nintendo platform, and while the first of those games is staying in Japan, the second one, which contains everything from the first game, is being released here sometime next year (yay!). Sega makes the games, so perhaps people think she has a chance because Sonic's in? Except for the part where a whole other company owns Miku...

The only other ridiculous request I've heard of is for her to sing in the opening ceremony for the Olympics, or something like that. Not to say other ridiculous crap like that doesn't exist, but I haven't heard of it. But yeah, no way in hell she's gonna be in Smash (even though I'd main her).

...And now inb4 I'm a perv, because generalization.

  6. Personally whenever I see requests for anything in smash 4 I just ignore it for two reasons:
    1. From what I've gathered the character roster was planed far in advance and is final. (even Greninja who was actually chosen far before X and Y was released)
    2. I've seen people request things SO impossible and pointless such as Chuck E. Cheese (a pizza parlor mascot) to the point that it's not funny or worth my time anymore.

  7. Where are you finding these odd character requests, and are they serious? I'd be utterly shocked to see Hatsune Miku in Smash. She's no more likely than Banjo, Goku, or Shrek...well, maybe more likely than Shrek. But she still has Goku-level chances! Maybe a lot of people have Miis of Hatsune Miku. I just don't know.

Regardless, Lana from Hyrule Warriors does look suspiciously like Hatsune Miku to me, and Lana actually has a non-zero chance of getting into SSB4.

  8. Hatsune Miku is a character from a popular rhythm game in Japan, mostly on Sony handhelds, but the games are rarely localized. Why people expect or want her in Smash, I have no idea. To be honest, it's probably only a sex thing, as she's often the target of hentai. As for why she's expected... What? She's never even been on a Nintendo platform as far as I know, and there are much more important third-party characters to grab the limited slots.

  9. I'll be honest, I've been feeling kinda bitter because of the outrage in response to the recent reveal, but man. That's the one comment on the subject of Smash that had to make my day. XD
Fucking weeaboos, that's who are the people requesting her. XD
(No offense to people who just like her, I'm talking about those who clearly go overboard.)

  10. I demand Commander Shepard be in Smash.

  11. I'd accept Miku only if she was in Fei Yen HD (Miku Version), and even then that's impossible because there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that they'll cross over with Virtual On!

  12. Still better than people saying Steve from Minecraft should be in SSB4.

    1. I'm not sold on that. Steve has a much, MUCH wider appeal that goes well beyond desperate teenage boys.

    2. Miku isnt just popular with teenage boys
      *shudders*

  13. Don't look now, but Tommy Wiseau has a sitcom called The Neighbors coming this September! Now excuse me as I watch The Tommy Wi-Show, which I somehow missed.

  14. As someone who is a bit too familiar with Hatsune Miku because I have a job where I get to work with fans, here is the basic gist:

She started out as a VOCALOID2 software, which is essentially a voicebank where you can make autotune-esque vocals to music you create. She was created as a "mascot" for one of the many voicebanks, and become popular over in Japan as a result of social media on their end (NicoNico, Youtube, etc...).

Since then, the Vocaloid 'franchise' has exploded to become one of three large pillars where you have a niche but sizable fandom that is absolutely devoted to it (the other two being Touhou Project and IDOLMASTER). As a result, it has gone on to be involved in rhythm games, assorted merchandise, and more

So would Hatsune Miku fit in a game like SSB4? The answer sadly is "Yes," because she was given an explicit lack of character canon so that people could use her in creative ways. Originally that meant musically, but now it means pretty much anything under the sun.

Sadly, I'm not entirely sure if Hatsune Miku's inclusion would boost the game more in Japan, where she has a dedicated hardcore fandom, or in North America where the fandom is more diverse but also a bit more tame. In any event, I would put low odds on her being licensed for SSB4 or related games.
