Get☆TV Pikachu event: nobody wins!

In both meanings of the word at that! I had you guys predict what would be its event move, and nobody got it right. Yep, they went with Mega Kick as a tie-in with the upcoming FIFA World Cup. MEGA FUCKING KICK. As a reminder, Return just beats it in every conceivable way, since after six gens Mega Kick is STILL Normal for some reason. Not to mention, it could already learn Mega Kick to start with... but that was with a gen 3 tutor, so I guess it did make it legal with Lightningrod, if you care enough about that. Too bad that event doesn't come with Volt Tackle, so Lightningrod + Mega Kick + Volt Tackle is still illegal. Same for other moves that are actually used on Pikachu, such as Iron Tail, Fake Out and Knock Off.

But really, think of this as another opportunity wasted. If they wanted to make a World Cup tie-in, why the hell not Blaze Kick or High Jump Kick? Do they think Pikachu is already some kind of juggernaut thanks to all those fabulous events it's gotten over the years? Why did they botch it so bad?

  1. Really, at this point, it's not a surprise. Events are rarely about the competitive aspect of Pokemon, but frequently about promotion and advertising. This is especially true with Pikachu, since it's the most recognizable Pokemon by far. Nintendo clearly has some sponsorship deal with the World Cup and did this as a promotion.

    1. True, but as I just said there were other moves that could've been picked that would've worked just as well, while also being useful.

    2. I don't really see what it has to do with soccer...

    3. Touhou Soccer: You'd be surprised...
Regular soccer: ...Point taken. Maybe for the next event, they can honor the ice caps or something...

  2. Maybe after they've given Pikachu all the shitty event moves, some actually decent moves will be left over...

  3. They could have given it flail and/or splash, that would tie in well (just taking the piss out on flopping in soccer, though flail theoretically could be useful). Blaze kick, volt tackle, agility or quick attack, headbutt would make sense as a world cup event. Many options, not all good (and some would be good on others but wasted here) but at least better. *shrugs* it's an event Pikachu without surf or other interesting moves, what is expected?

    1. It had Extremespeed once, but it's illegal with both Volt Tackle and Lightningrod, making it basically worthless. That's why Quick Attack is still a thing on it.

    2. I wasn't saying it was a bad option, I was saying that the moves I mentioned were all better options than Mega Kick; I was giving a hypothetical moveset which would make some sense. Not that making sense and trollfreak need to come together.

  4. Also, as a side note, I'm enforcing bans just like the good old days. No get-out-of-jail-free card, no nothing. You get on my bad side, bye-bye-a-go-go. Of course Blogger won't quite allow me to do that, so I'm settling for the next best thing.
