Donate Odolwa for typhoon Haiyan relief!

Just another reminder (if the banner up top wasn't enough) that TheSpeedGamers' sorta-kinda-semi-annual-or-something-close-to-that Zelda marathon is getting underway on Friday at 7 PM Eastern, 6 PM Central, 4 PM Pacific, midnight standard time, etc., and will last the standard 72 hours. This time money is being raised for Mercy Corps, who's helping the victims of typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Philippines last month. The goal this time is $15000, and as usual every cent of what's collected goes to the charity. And if Mercy Corps' claim that only 12% of their funds go to administration is accurate... well, I guess there's no guilt in giving to them, right? So if you got some money to spare in the middle of all those Christmas gifts you have to buy, you can let Knarf donate everything anyway, you won't make a difference compared to him definitely give it to those for whom the holidays are just about the last thing on their minds because every dollar counts!

  1. Best of luck to them and a very worthy cause.

Also, I think Nintendo are trying to make the Battle Maison redundant. According to Serebii, Pokémiles can be turned into BP in Pokémon Bank

    1. Well Arceus bless them for trying to make Pokémiles useful.

    2. Turns out Serebii got it wrong. You can't turn Pokemiles into BP, but you CAN choose to receive BP from Pokebank instead of Pokemiles when you transfer pokemon. Something tells me this could be very exploited.

    3. I wonder if it works when you deposit Pokémon, then send them back to the same game. Probably not, but if it does, say hello to BP cheese!

    4. I'm wondering if it will work if you deposit to the bank, then close the bank, open it again, then withdraw them, then close the bank again, then re-deposit them again etc. If that's how it works, that's about as broken as broken can be. And considering how Game Freak screwed up with Land's Wrath and leaving a weakness in the game that allowed a 3rd party program to VIEW your opponent's moves AND what they were using, which they only just patched today,, they could screw up with Pokemon Bank like this and give us INFINITE EASY BP!

    5. I find it kinda odd that Game Freak is against payed DLC but not this. Then again they let Chunsoft make DLC for Gates to Infinity...

    6. Well they're going to need SOMETHING to pay the server costs, especially since we're talking about a utility that's likely going to be usable over several generations. Besides, Box and Ranch also cost something, and that was just local storage.

  2. This probably isn't the place to ask, and you might not even see it, Slow, but I have to know: During this marathon, did you hear about the cool new Slowbro set, Funbro? I'm interested to hear your take on it.

    1. Okay, looking it up... it relies on your opponent's reaction (as well as praying that he has no Toxic users or setup sweepers left, along with anything that might cause over 50% damage per turn) more than actual power. Meaning it'll fail miserably if your opponent turns out to have more patience than you do. Wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be the next FEAR - excellent n00b-killer, but has no merit against a skilled player.

    2. (Sorry for the triple post, but hey, this is my blog.)

Looking further into it, no mention of it whatsoever anywhere on Smogon, so my prediction might be more accurate than I thought. Furthermore, it's clearly nothing new, since the Leppa Berry, Block and Recycle all show up on the stats near the bottom, so some people have already known about it, and it would've spread much quicker if it was effective.

    3. Yeah...the set looks awful. If there's a teammate that can 2HKO, has Knock Off, Taunt, phasing moves, Toxic, stat-up moves, or Volt Switch/U-Turn (off the top of my head), then that set is boned. It's like FEAR, but somehow even less reliable. If you want to draw out a game to the point that your opponent ragequits or disconnects, then...yeah it might do that. But if you actually want to win most of your games, perhaps try something else.

    4. Then it's really no surprise that it's all over GameFAQs and there's not a single mention of it anywhere on Smogon. So much stuff beats it... but not Taunt, which Oblivious is now immune to. (Yes, a reason to use Oblivious over Regenerator. Never thought I'd see the day.)

    5. Oh yeah, that. I obviously still haven't gotten used to all these little mechanics tweaks!

    6. I just thought it was funny and interesting, but it's only used for trolling purposes. Some people may have known it was possible before, but I hadn't heard of it before recently (I was just checking some Showdown links for fun). It's always cool to find a set that absolutely breaks the game in some form or another, in this case drawing out a battle potentially infinitely. Struggle is specifically in place to prevent that, but Funbro works around that. I never said that it was good, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks!

    7. Well yeah, of course I enjoy a good cheesy set every now and again, whether it's FEAR, this, Stallrein, Prankster Copycat Riolu... I'm just waiting for the day when one of these sets is actually usable against good players.

  3. And if you needed more incentive to get Pokemon Bank, there's now another incentive. Getting and connecting to it before September 2014 gets you a free CELEBI.

  4. Wow, I just now got the pun in the title. Very clever.
