Day 3: No lawyer team in the world can stop this now

So much happened this afternoon while I was at work... where to begin? A mega evolution to another Pokémon that really didn't need a hand, maybe? See, that's the danger of giving mega evolutions based on both popularity and power (as that interview from the other day suggested), because some Pokémon are popular BECAUSE they're powerful. One glimmer of hope, though: if it loses Levitate, it will be a tremendous blow to it no matter what it's being replaced with (to a few exceptions, for those nitpickers out there that are ready to jump down my throat). With that said, Gengar's type makes it effective against Fairy, as well as not being resisted by Steel anymore, so it already got a significant buff even before this happened.

For a silver lining, though, how about a mega evolution for something that DID need one? Let's hope it gets an ability it could use, because the three it has right now... no thanks. Of course, Rock Head COULD be useful if it had Brave Bird and Head Smash, and maybe they did give it these moves this time around, but the odds of that... wouldn't count on it, I'll say that much.

Oh, remember what the leaker from Pokébeach said about dual-typed moves? Yeah, they're a thing too now. Welcome to the generation of random, stupid fan theories coming to life. And with that damage output, this is NOT a move that has an effect with nice practical uses but is too weak to be of use, like we've seen a lot of these past generations. The good news is, judging by the move's flavor this seems to be Hawlucha's signature move (meaning every Flying-type will have it in gen 7), and I don't think there'll be too many of these moves to start with. It also depends on whether the final form in that line has usable stats, and knows high-power moves like Close Combat and Brave Bird that could make this a non-issue. Seriously though, how could have Gamefreak gone through with that idea? Are the reasons why this is incredibly stupid not painfully obvious to them?

And finally, how is this a Dragon? I really really want to know what this evolves into. (By the way, don't panic with the Pokédex number, this is the MOUNTAIN Pokédex we're talking about here.)

As usual, keep checking back for more! I'll add edits after a jump should anything come up (and you just know that'll happen).

Edit: Sun already got its mega evolution, now it's hail's turn! Mega Abomasnow looks crazy powerful, but unfortunately crazy slow as well. Not that it's all bad, mind you, it at least makes it win out in simultaneous weather-inducing wars even easier...

Edit 2: Holy crap, Nintendo's really dedicated to shutting us up. Of course, had it only been that one guy who got a copy early it would've done something, but as we know now, nope. And they can't hope to silence everyone who's got a copy at this point. Nintendo not understanding how the internet works? I never would've imagined that! (I can't decide if it's supposed to be a jab at their terrible policies on online gaming or the YouTube monetization shenanigans, so let's pretend it's both.)

Edit 3: Possible list of mega evolutions, and this might be real since several have checked out. So let me get this straight. Of the three superpowered non-legendaries that are too good for OU (even though one of them still is OU anyway), ALL THREE get mega evolutions. Gliscor and Salamence are also likely to make Smogon erupt in rage. But for the rest? I like it. Many Pokémon in there that desperately needed it, as well as nice Pokémon like Mienshao and Metagross that had to have something like this to stay relevant.

However, there's one thing I find weird. It's normal for Charizard and Mewtwo to get two, since they're unquestionably the most popular fully evolved Pokémon, and that was a factor as we now know. But the rest... seems kind of random. Entei? Darkrai? MELOETTA? Really?

This also raises an interesting question. How did whoever did this find this list? Was it datamined? If so, could we be getting base stats soon?

Edit 4: Mr. Mime retcon confirmed: Psychic/Fairy! It's kinda weird how we didn't hear a single thing on that front until now, but oh well. Also, the Pledges were boosted from 50 power to 80. It's nice that they tried, but unless you get them early enough to use them in-game it's not going to do much. And that becomes NOTHING competitively where Energy Ball, Flamethrower and Surf are more than happy to show them the door. Since they're only for starters, and the only starters that are OU or above are either physical-based or too busy using Giga Drain, why the heck not 100?

Edit 5: Hoo boy, the genwunners are going to have a field day with this guy.

Edit 6: More retcons! This time it's Plusle and Minun, who are Electric/Suck... I mean Fairy. This was perhaps the most pointless edit of the last three days, but I thought I should let you know anyway.

Edit 7: I'm just going to throw this link out there, rather than try to sum it up. Lots of interesting stuff, especially as it pertains to horde battles...

Edit 8: Mostly complete Central and Coastal Pokédexes. Seems like 150 is the magic number... I can live with 450 Pokémon in a regional Dex. I guess it goes without saying, but even though 78 through 85 on Coastal are empty, we allllll know what goes there.

END OF DAY: Calling it a night. Unfortunately I won't be around much tomorrow, but I'll still try and post here as much as I can.

  1. What comes to the list of megaevolutions, I know that some of the Mega-stones are found but not the Pokémon they're used for. https://twitter.com/SleepyJirachi/status/385887079957532673/photo/1 Possibly from finds like that is the list made from.

    1. But the Mega Stones' names are made from the names of the Pokémon, so even if they're not found in X/Y (or haven't been found yet, whatever the case may be), when Pokémon Bank comes out that'll be a non-issue.

    2. I mostly ment that people may have found stones and compiled the list from the stones they've found.
Still little bit weird and I doubt the list is fully believable, but interesting theory still.

    3. Oh, okay. Still, the developments are coming in so fast I'm not sure anyone would want to make a fake list only to be disproven five minutes later. Especially since just in the time it takes to make the list it might be disproven.

  2. Wow, just wow. Make way for Mega Stantler and Mega Magcargo, everyone. I'm disappointed that we don't have Mega Luvdisc!

    1. But then what would it look like? Ma-Ti?

    2. It would just mega-evolve into Alomomola, of course!

    3. Or they'll just introduce a form in between Luvdisc and Alomomola...

  3. That Key ring pokemon made my day. That is so bad it's hilarious.

  4. Really Gamefreak? Aren't there enough over 9000 jokes out there as is?

  5. Dammit, I caved. I preordered the game on Amazon. Well, at least by the time I get it on Tuesday or Wednesday, we'll already know everything we need to know about the game.

  6. If Absol is found rather early, at least I get to be disappointed by it rather early. Depends on when I can get the Absolnite or whatever it was called...
This game does look fascinating. Good think I am going to my local Wal-Mart on the 12th to get it. I have many gift cards, so why not? Not like they will be having a tiny supply of the games...That and most parents will be buying them closer to Christmas. We nerds will be the ones getting them the day they come out. Well, maybe not you, but I am. Really, I am looking forward to it. NEXT SUNDAY IS COMING TOO SLOWLY!...
Still holding out for that Ice/Fairy type. Hey, for a Touhou fan, that opportunity is PERFECT!...

  7. 86 is also empty. 87 is Yanma. Unless it is some one-form Pokemon (unlikely), then 85 or 86 will be that other Eeveelution I predicted the existence of. Scary when I actually get something like this RIGHT...

    1. This is not rhetorical. Has there been a single one-form Pokemon between the Eeveelutions and ComMons? Okay, Gen 1 had Porygon at the time. Murkrow for Gen 2. Gen 4 skipped right to the evolutions of old Pokemon afterwards. Okay, it IS more possible than I thought. I will give you that. Even then, neither Porygon nor Murkrow count as single-form Pokemon anymore even if their evolutions are much further down in the National Dex. I know not how the regionals organize them...Probably in the same order as the National Dex starting in Gen 3...

    2. Are you serious? You really think there's some sort of pattern to it, like it's intended or something? What is this I don't even.

      Delete
    3. Until Gen 5, they stuck to patterns like that. With their actions in Gen 5, it really could be anything now...

      Delete
    4. No they didn't! You said it yourself, Porygon and Murkrow didn't evolve until later! There's no pattern... that's like saying two slots before the first Pokémon in each part of the line there's a Water Pokémon, and that got broken in gen 4! THAT'S NOT INTENTIONAL! Jesus!

    5. Allow me to explain myself. I do not have the National Pokedex memorized, so I thought there was a pattern. I looked it up. There was pretty much none...
The lack of extreme publicity of another is also a decent indicator that I was wrong...

    6. I am sorry for being a baka...

  8. I wish stuff like Primeape actually got evolutions instead of alternate formes. A massive disappointment especially after Gen V.

  9. What are your feelings on a possible Mega Excadrill?

  10. I'm no genwunner, but I had a very difficult time believing that the Key Chain Pokemon is real. What were they on when they thought that up?
