Datamining 3DS games: done deal

Never underestimate the power of Pokémon. The 3DS has been hackproof for over two and a half years, but give us a Pokémon game and suddenly you're giving people incentive to blow everything to pieces. And it took less than three weeks, too. For the time being we have the event Pokémon to show for it, but there should be more soon, like egg moves, whatever updated stats Serebii's list is still missing, and most importantly, whatever mega evolutions may still be hidden in the code (if there are any).

Well, I guess from Nintendo's point of view, it's a success... at least the games haven't been hacked to pieces before release. Of course, the leaking situation is another matter, but maybe the 3DS' successor will be able to last a whole month after its first Pokémon game?

  1. I would like to point out that having the game files dumped onto a computer and looking through them is different than changing values in the ram.

  2. My guess is on Diancie being the traditional one with a base stat spread of 100 everywhere

  4. I would like to brag for a second and say that I called it before release. The 3DS was never unhackable, it's just that nobody figured out how before. Nothing is really unhackable. So far, Pokemon is the only game on the 3DS with a large fanbase that's worth datamining, so it's not surprising that this is the first we've seen of it.

    1. Yeah, but 19 days. NINETEEN DAYS. I expected that it'd happen eventually, but only long after everything was figured out.

  5. Of all Pokemon to get Mega Evolutions: LATIOS AND LATIAS!...

    1. Don't be so quick to assume they could be broken. What made Latias and Latios overpowered in the first place was their exclusive Soul Dew item. They would have to sacrifice the Soul Dew in order to Mega evolve. Depending on how the stats are spead, the Mega Latias and atios may be weaker than their Soul Dew holding non-mega counterparts.

    2. But soul dew is almost always banned in competitive play. This would simply replace a choice item or life orb (like usual....)

    3. Soul Dew isn't banned in Ubers though. While it's clear cut in the standard play, the choice is much more relevant in Ubers and the stats of the Mega Evolutions will be of much more importance, as if they aren't stronger than Soul Dew Latios/Latias in Ubers then what's the point?

    4. So? No one really cares about Ubers, typically OU (and lower) is all anyone thinks about with regards to bans. Anyway we already know most megas are not as offensively strong as using a life orb (though gets speed/def boosts and no recoil) so what's your point?

    5. No one really cares about ubers, which is why there are twice as many games played in ubers as in UU.

    6. However, it will be an interesting to see what happens. The Mega Latias and Latios duo may end up in a limbo situation, being surpassed in Ubers by their Soul Dew counterparts and too overpowered for standard play. I think Ubers is the most interesting ground for the Eon dragons right now and this.
