Question for whoever has Wind Waker HD

I've been hearing about how five of the Triforce Shards are now found immediately on completion of what used to yield Triforce Charts. Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me which ones? I'd like to see if there's a reason why it's only five and not all eight of them. Also, are there more regular treasure charts to compensate, since in the original every single square on the map had exactly one treasure found with them?

Of course, it also means you also get to keep about 2000 rupees you had to part with in the Gamecube version, since Tingle only gets to charge you the deciphering fee three times instead of eight. Not sure I like, because, well, I'll be blunt: other than cleaning up the auction house and Rock Spire Island Beedle, rupees are entirely worthless. This isn't Skyward Sword where there's so much to buy if you're as much of a completionist as I am. At least back then you had an excuse to build up money (not that it was that hard, because Wind Waker is easily the game where money is the most plentiful). I suppose it greatly benefits those who cared so little that they had to grind money near the end just to pay Tingle, but still...

Edit: Apparently the Magic Armor uses rupees, not magic. So there's your use for rupees. It's only when you get hit though, so... is it an upgrade or a downgrade? Depends on how fast it burns those rupees, I guess. As for the remaining Triforce Charts, they're the ones that can be obtained before doing the Tower of the Gods, so I assume they were kept for that reason. I must ask... why? You can still head to Tingle's, get them deciphered, and get the shards before entering the Tower of the Gods, so unless there's something I'm missing, what's the point? And then the Hero's Charm was shoved at the very bottom of the Savage Labyrinth, making it by all means useless. At least in the original version you could get it in a snap...

  1. The ones that still give you a triforce chart are: The one in the islet of steel, the one in the golden battleship, and the one you use a seagull to obtain. (forgot the name of the island but it was by forest haven)
And yes there are more normal treasure charts. For example: the teacher gives you one instead of the hero's charm. (which is instead at the bottom of the savage labyrinth)
Also the Magic Armor uses rupees instead of magic (and only when you get hit) so they aren't entirely pointless...

    1. Hmm. And where's the Piece of Heart that used to be at the bottom of the Savage Labyrinth? I take it that particular treasure chart you mentioned leads you to it?

Either way, it's weird how the three you mentioned are the three you can get before entering the Tower of the Gods. Why would they keep these? I mean, is there an additional safeguard that prevents you from translating the charts and getting the corresponding shards until later in the game? If not, what's the point of keeping those charts?

  2. Dammit, I always get the Hero's Charm right after Dragon Roost Island. I'm kind of disappointed about the rupee thing, too. I hate having a full wallet, though it's not nearly as frustrating as in Twilight Princess. I always liked having the option of dumping some of my excess rupees on Tingle so that I wasn't wasting any. Realistically, that just means that money will never be a problem, but I just HATE wasting rupees.

I'm also not sure I like all this item-shuffling. It will be interesting to see how it plays out on my first playthrough, but it's really going to mess with my mind sometimes. I also like the Triforce quest quite a bit, and I'm not happy that they changed it. I suppose it's really just trimming the fat by not making you find the pieces, but still.

  3. Not going to lie, seriously debating getting a Wii U, purely for Wind Waker. Never actually got to beat my own copy, since I lost it...

    1. So far I'm absolutely adoring the new HD version and haven't had a single issue with any of the changes or any sort of moment where I thought 'I wish they had done so-and-so'.
      Fantastic game.
      Also Pikmin 3 :)
