Let's Play #21: Here it comes!

So, we bursted through the 20k threshold thanks to Rob auctioning off what he'd be playing next on his stream, and Solitaire edged out Dark Souls after a frantic between war between a few people with really deep pockets! This means it's time to reveal my next Let's Play!

So this is a popular game on the N64, which is a sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed N64 titles (which I've already LPed). Although the graphics are almost identical, the game feels VERY different from its predecessor. Its final boss is renowned for its difficulty, though if you're enough of a sidequesting fiend you can obtain something that will utterly trivialize it. Speaking of difficulty, a few mini-games will have you swearing like a sailor!

Ladies and gentlemen... Let's Play #21!

  1. Wootage! My guesses were this or FF6.

  2. I'm just looking forward to Canary Mary. I can literally hear you screaming "COMEONCOMEONCOMEONCOMEONMASHMASHMASHMASHMASHMASHMASH" ad infinitum already.

    1. The funny part is that in the last race, you WILL lose if you just try to mash all the way through. What you're supposed to do is go slowly while still keeping up with her through nearly the entire race, and in the last part when you're coming down the mountain you have to slow down and let her build a lead, THEN start mashing at EXACTLY the right moment. Too late and you never catch up, too early and her rubberband AI kicks in and you lose.

    2. I don't know how people are able to beat her without resting. I usually just mash the hell out of the button and then pause the game when my hands get tired and the unpause and rinse and repeat.

Anyway, my only problem with the game is that it's supposed to be the game that pushed the N64 to its limits, yet almost all the levels are gigantic, but feel empty. Terrydactyland comes to mind. I like this game and all, I just feel like its empty at times. Heck, Nuts and Bolts felt that way since a lot of the levels in that game are huge and have similar level design to the original two.

Anyway, have fun with the rom of that game. It loves to crash A LOT from what I remember. I remember when I LPed it and did the Cloud Cuckooland Canary Mary jiggy, I beat that bitch and then my game crashed. And then 1000+ puppies were killed.

    3. Oh and Grunty not rhyming saddens me. But, I love the game regardless of those flaws. Guess I just liked Kazooie better.

  3. I totally forgot you LPed Banjo Kazooie, so for a second, I was thinking it was going to be Majora's Mask, even though I believe you said you wouldn't do it. But, I'm looking forward to Tooie.

    1. Majora's Mask is to him what Sonic Next Gen and Mega Man X6 are to the Great Clement...who also LPed Banjo-Kazooie recently...

  4. The description alone screams Banjo-Tooie. So, are you actually going to have to use the invincibility cheat for the HAG-1?...

    1. I think he means the honeyback cheat

    2. Yeah, that's Honeyback, not invincibility. If I'm going to go to all the trouble of collecting those Cheato pages, I'm going to use them as I damn well please, dammit!

Also, the point of the description was to kinda troll people into thinking that it might be Majora's Mask. Seriously, those two games DO share a lot in common, huh? It would've been even better if Banjo-Tooie required an Expansion Pak as it was originally planned to...

    3. Even though Majora's Mask is basically your Sonic Next Gen?...

There are only so many ways you can say, "People may like this game, but I HATE IT!", you know...

    4. People seem to NOT remember that I hate it for some reason, though. Same when I say I won't LP Pokémon spin-offs or RPGs in general.

    5. Maybe they take Ed Wood's suspension of disbelief thing too seriously?...

When push comes to shove, you can really only say that you hate a game many people like so much. It is not like BrainScratchComms and Sonic Genesis, where that is a short enough game where they can complain about everything wrong with it and not run out of things to say. While Majora's Mask is one of the shorter Zelda games, you would run out of things to say besides, "F**k this game!" as nauseum...

At least I, your most psychotic (by human standards) fan acknowledge that you will not play that game...or the Colosseum series. Have they ever heard of looking for someone else's LP, even if the Pokemon ones would not be as good as what you would do?...

'Tis your channel. You already are doing what YOU want with it...

I love non-existant character limits...or at least needlessly (until they meet me) huge-numbered ones that let me type a lot...

  5. I found Banjo Kazooie to be more like Mario 64, while Tooie was more like DK64 (I guess Rare wanted to continue with that kind of feel. Not that I'm complaining). One is a platformer while the other has more of an adventuring sort of feel, with some platforming thrown in of course. I just hope you're ready for one long-as-hell Let's Play that isn't Pokemon.

    1. Is it going to be as long as Wind Waker, though? I'm not entirely sure of that.

    2. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I guess it just blew over my head. It really depends how much you die/lose minigames during Tooie I suppose, 'cause Wind Waker was pretty long, but it was also easy. Tooie is a little more unpredictable in terms of how much time you'll spend on a given task. Especially if you haven't played through it multiple times.

  6. It was always a bit off-putting that you hate Majora's Mask. I agree with you on almost everything you say, but man, I loves me some MM. One of my top Zelda games for sure.

Banjo Tooie's nice too, though. Haven't seen an LP of that game since NintendoCapriSun's, and that was almost 4 friggin' years ago.

    1. ExandShadow is doing Banjo-Tooie now. With the update schedule, he will complete it when ProtonJon completes his Superman 64 LP. When they hear Slow is doing it, they will have quite the ethical dilemma since Slow actually updates his stuff unless personal things or TheSpeedGamers come up. It will be quite a while before Slow completes Star Road, so ExandShadow may end up finishing it...

    2. It would be absolutely foolish for anyone to base their LPing schedule based on what other LPers are doing (especially since there are so many out there). There's no dilemma for anyone, he's going to update whenever he wants to, and so will I.

    3. I guess I should have told you that it was merely a pot shot at ProtonJon's update schedule and an innocent observation that ExandShadow's for the game seems similar. Hey, everyone makes fun of ProtonJon's update schedule...

  7. Are you going to use the SuperBanjo cheat at some point? At the very least, are you going to talk about it? Because BikdipOnABus mentioned at least 2 Jiggies you can get earlier with it.

Alternatively, for a challenge, are you going to use the SuperEnemies cheat?
