F5 ALL the sites!

So the roundtable is about to begin, and to my knowledge it isn't being broadcasted anywhere. You know what this means? ...well, it's in the title, so there goes the suspense. Hopefully we learn more about the Fairy type, and I wouldn't say no to knowing what the deal it with sky battles. Fingers crossed that it's not just a type of battle where only fliers and levitators are allowed, and that there's more to it. Maybe more on that Pokémon-Amie BS as well? Yeah, raising happiness isn't going to cut it, walking/running/biking 128 steps has a 50% chance of increasing happiness... ACROSS YOUR ENTIRE TEAM. Right now it reeks of gen 6 counterpart to the Dream World in terms of absolutely tedious and annoying mini-game.

Edit: Aaaaaand it's done. I'll give my two cents in tomorrow's LP episode(s).

  1. "But imagine rubbing an Excadrill and feeding it berries! It can't be any worse than the Musical!"
Hopefully the Pokémon-Amie is at least going to serve some sort of purpose, maybe more importance placed on happiness?

Also, Fairy-type seems good and all, but they better not troll us by making it weak to Fighting or Rock. Ice-types are bad enough!

  2. Meh, Pokémon-Amie still looks better than the Dream World in my opinion. It kinda looks like some kind of Tamagotchi rip-off. This is going to please children and casual players worldwide.
However, I do hope it's not a mandatory feature to raise your Pokémon because I know I'll have to hear you (and any other competitive player) constantly bitching about it if it is. :P

    1. Are you implying me bitching about things isn't the best thing since sliced bread? :P

Nah, but seriously, having one less thing to bitch about would be nice. Hopefully we can just bypass the whole thing entirely.

    2. Well, they've been very cryptic about it so far, so my assumptions could very well be wrong, but that thing they said about the Pokémon "stopping to listen to your orders" is very, VERY intriguing.

Now that I think about it, maybe it has nothing to do with happiness at all but be something like a "bonding" value instead.

But I'm just speculating about the very little amount of info we currently have. Let's just wait until we know more before panicking.

    3. It might indeed be that they're adding a new variable. But even if it's happiness, it would be the easiest variable to overhaul completely considering that its value is reset to default when trading/transferring anyway.

  3. It looks like a Pokemon version of Nintendogs. Not a fan. Unless it's necessary for something, it will be one of those things that I try once and then never again.

    1. What's incredible is the confusion around what it actually does. Some people have said it has to do with obedience, others (through a tweet from IGN) that it increases crit chance and evasion... and then you have Serebii, the guy most people will trust above everyone else, talking about an "additional, but currently unclear effect".

  4. Nah, I don't think I'll be getting XY. I'm not interested in video games anymore for a variety of reasons and it'll just feel like I'm forcing myself to play it just because Pokemon used to be my favourite thing ever (which it definitely isn't anymore). I hope you guys enjoy Gen VI and beyond, but I'm gonna leave while I'm ahead.

  5. I have to say, Fairy type? Really? You had SO many options for a new and potentially awesome type like light or something and you went with Fairy? Seriously Game Freak, wtf? I am glad though that they're going back and adding Fairy type to a whole bunch of old pokemon, it will make sure it's not an underpopulated typing, and will really shake up a Gen VI metagame. Maybe we'll even see something like Gardevoir in OU? In any case, I'm glad that the pointless Sylveon speculation is now over...

    1. Why are you surprised? It's been known for a while since that one Pokémon Smash episode. Besides, a Light type would be plain unnecessary, since that's basically what Psychic is in Japan. Not to mention the existence of the Electric type as well.

    2. They saw that the casual crowd wanted a Fairy type. They probably got the idea, tried to come up with a name, and said, "Screw it! Give our new type the name THEY want!" I know this is pathetic, but I do still hope that they have reverse compatibility with Gen 5 with the superior technology. Granted, with all of the changes, it could be the same situation as Gen 2 to Gen 3. I will be buying Y either way...

    3. How is broadening your target audience pathetic ? Not every Pokémon need to be a baddass monster of terror and destruction. It means the casual players (mostly of the female category, but there are still exceptions) will be able to actually use fully-evolved Pokémon which will still answer to their "cutesy look" criteria. XD

I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only Kirby fan here... Because obviously if you can appreciate the insane powers of a pink puffball you should have absolutely no problem with Fairies being powerful enough to beat Dragons.

    4. Never said that it would suck. I also like my Jirachi and Azelf and Victini. I also like Gardevoir, who is being retconned into a Fairy...
I also like Kirby. I just am a little ticked that the name they chose was the very name that THOSE kinds of fans have wanted for about 14 years or more...

    5. The casual crowd wanted Light, not Fairy. Because they're unaware of the actual meaning of the Psychic type (and Dark and Fighting, for that matter) in Japan.

    6. Yeah, that's why I didn't stated that they gave them exactly what they wanted, but it was still to please them in a way. I know my sister would consider getting the game for the Fairy type and Pokémon-Amie alone if it wasn't for the fact that she doesn't have a 3DS. She doesn't even play video games all that much too except for the occasional strolls in Zelda and Mario games. I'm using her as an example because I'm sure she isn't the only one.

And hopefully they will make sure to balance everything out for the competitive players.

    7. Last I checked, Fairy was fairly high on their list (behind Light (Dark is the Evil type in Japan) and Sound (what would Sound even counter?)), but I know that you lot will hate me no matter how I word it...
Your wish was granted. There is a potential for reverse compatibility, and IVs and EVs will apparently be more visible...

  6. So there's a fairy type in pokemon! Awesome! Now my wigglytuff is gonna be an arse-kicking... Normal/fairy type? This is going to spread around like the normal/flying disease, isn't it?

    1. Depends on whether the Jigglypuff line is the exception or the rule.

    1. Well yeah, if the Pokémon with "fairy" in the game ISN'T Fairy, then I want some of what they're smoking.

    2. This is a prime chance for gamefreak to cater to competitive battlers. If they make fairy types weak to Normal, Poison, and psychic, resistant to Dragon and fighting, and NVE against Normal and ice, this could be one of the best things they ever did for the metagame. Yes. Normal strong against something. I said it.
