Incoming Megaman marathon!

I know I already mentioned this in a video, but another reminder is in order now that we're almost there. See that image up top? Click on it, and you're there. The fun begins on March 8 at 7 PM Eastern, 6 PM Central, 4 PM Pacific, midnight universal time (that's the UK time zone for the record), etc. It'll last 72 hours, as is usually the case. Nonetheless, you can still donate right now, if you're interested.

I still haven't seen gaming or commentating schedules though, so if you're looking forward to a particular game I have no info to give you, unfortunately. Maybe as we draw closer to the start... Also, no LP announcement this time, since I've barely done any Star Road thus far. There WILL be one during the Final Fantasy marathon, though, and I've got something special planned for that...

Also, this is the single best piece of promotion for a marathon that I've ever seen. Almost makes you wonder what's the point of promoting in the first place if no one can even come close to this.

Makes me wonder, though, why make such a huge deal out of Air Man? Even in non-pussy mode he's still one of the easiest Robot Masters to beat with the Mega Buster. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I think he's one of those few Robot Masters who's harder to beat with their weakness than with the Mega Buster (a dubious honor he shares with Tengu Man, at the very least).

  1. Oh... downloaded Megaman 2 on VC for the 3DS recently and since it was my very first traditional Megaman game, well... It went almost as smoothly as what was described in the video. I was playing "half-blind", as I was only using a weaknesses list just to plan in which order I would complete the stages. And what about that easier original US release mode ? Is it also what the VC gives us ? Darn it ! And here I was thinking I was slowly getting used to the difficulty.

Wood Man only gave me trouble because it was my first classic Megaman stage ever. Air Man got me a few time, but died quickly when I figured out his pattern... I should probably take the time to finish this game now... XD

    1. The thing about Megaman 2 is that it's surprisingly open-ended in the way you can beat the Robot Masters. I can personally beat Flash Man, Bubble Man and Air Man with the Mega Buster (that's in Hard mode / Normal in Anniversary Collection), Wood Man's actual weakness is the Atomic Fire but you're better off using Metal Blades, same for Flash Man who's weak to Crash Bombs, good luck beating Heat Man before Air Man because you need Item-2 in the former's stage, etc.

Megaman 3 was also quirky in that you had one weakness cycle with five bosses, and another one with the other three. All the other games after that had only one cycle (except 8 because of the two-sets-of-four gimmick).

    2. Oh, and as for the difficulty, I think you only get what was labeled Difficult in the NA release. One way to be sure is to simply shoot a Robot Master with the Mega Buster. If you take off one health, it's Difficult. If you take off two, it's Normal. Alternatively, just see if you OHKO Metal Man with a Metal Blade, if you can you're on Normal.

    3. Thanks for the tips. Since my family used to be really poor back in my early childhood, I sadly skipped a lot of classics which should have been very nostalgic to me normally. I actually like this game much more than I thought I would, pretty much like the original F-Zero Nintendo recently released for the Wii U's Virtual Console for their special Famicom anniversary promotion. Both of these games I missed during my childhood aged well enough for me to still be able to enjoy them now for the first time.

Too bad even though I was lucky enough to start playing Pokemon with Gen 1 games, I can't get any fun out of them anymore except for the music.

  2. Man, I'm in a Megaman mood lately. I've been working on my collection of Megaman games. I have the Anniversary collection for the Gamecube, which has Megaman 1-8, and I also have 9 and 10 on the Wii. I bought the X collection for PS2 recently, which has X-X6, and I also got X8 when I was lucky enough to find it in a Gamestop (still need X7, though). I believe the next games chronologically are the Zero games, and I got the Zero collection for the DS the other day.

I'm a huge fan of the Starforce games, so I have all three of those, but the Battle Network games are too expensive to bother with now (same goes for the Legends games).

    I'm getting pumped for this!

  3. I'm not into Mega Man at all and I've only played one Mega Man game, but I might check out how the marathon is doing every now and then on the weekend.

  4. Air Man is pathetic to everyone except the guy who wrote "I Can't Defeat Airman". From what I hear, Air Man can create tornadoes that are literally impossible to avoid without the Leaf Shield. Do not hold me to that, for I merely heard it somewhere...I do know that he can make patterns that are impossible to avoid...

Actually, Metal Man is Flash Man's actual weakness. Quick Man is technically weak to Crash Man, but it also helps to have Flash Man's weapon. Also, METAL BLADES ARE BROKEN IN 2 (and World 2, the Game Boy Mega Man II)...

    1. Metal Blades being so good against Flash Man (and Metal Man himself too) is probably due to them being such a broken weapon anyway. I know for a fact that the weakness cycle is Flash > Quick > Metal > Bubble > Heat > Wood > Air > Crash > Flash. However, as I said, Megaman 2 is the one game where using the actual weaknesses is suboptimal in quite a few instances, and, well, good luck getting to Heat Man without having beaten Air Man first.

    2. The Mega Man Wiki lists both as his weakness. In order of convenience, I usually go Crash>Quick>Metal>Flash>Bubble>Wood>Air>Heat, as I recall. Also, have you heard of that glitch where you can kill the second form of the Wily Machine with one Crash Bomb (assuming you have game overed to the boss rush) if you time it perfectly?...

    3. No, and I suck enough at that fight without doing complicated tricks that I probably couldn't pull it off anyway.
