New poll series: Favorite Pokémon spin-offs

But first, the results of the last poll! 127 voters out of 201 type numbers using the buttons above the letters (either out of habit or because they have no numeric keypad), only 24 use the numeric keypad, and 50 alternate depending on the situation.

Now, this next series of polls will be about which Pokémon spin-offs are your favorites, and we're going to proceed by generation for this. One exception: gens 1 and 2 will be together, since gen 2 had the glorious total of TWO spin-offs, and it doesn't take a nuclear physicist to know such a poll would be a Stadium 2 curbstomp-fest.

Of course, at the end, there will be a final poll featuring all the top performers from each poll, and we'll crown a winner from there!

  1. Hate to say it, but the only spin-off besides Conquest that I've played more than 5 minutes is Stadium 1. Even that game probably clocks in for me at a total of 2 hours max... So that's my pick purely by default.

  2. I have to say Pokemon Snap, but that's likely because I haven't played either of the Stadium games. Snap is just fun to play.

  3. I hesitated for a while between Pinball and Stadium 2, but I had to remember that while Pokemon Pinball was very fun and had found a clever way to fuse both games together, it still had quite a few flaws, sadly. So yeah... my vote goes to Stadium 2 for its sheer diversity while still keeping the same "basic" Pokemon Battle gameplay. Also GBC Tower with legal fast-forward option !! :P

  4. Eh, gen 1 and 2 had few good spin-offs that are good without nostalgia goggles but I'll go with snap because to be fair I haven't seen a game done like it (and done right) even to this day. The closest thing I've seen is Pokemon Dream Radar and who honestly plays that for its gameplay.

  5. I went for TCG, so many good memories of that game. Plus I recently came across the sequel for the GBC and downloaded a translation patch, which is pretty fun.

  6. I haven't played any of those spin-offs, so it turns out I can't vote. :( I'll be able to vote on the Gen III, IV and V ones though.

    1. Up to now Gen 5 actually one has PokéPark Wii 2 as only spin off or am I forgetting something there? Sort of weird that they don't milk that cow...

    2. You forgot Conquest and Mystery Dungeon 3. But to be fair, I can forgive for forgetting the latter...

    3. And Rumble 2 and Typing Adventure.

    4. And if you wanna be really pedantic, the 3DS eShop ones too (Pokedex 3D and Dream Radar), as bad as they may be.

    5. Except that one of them is not a game, but a portable Pokemon Database and the other one is just a mini-game to get rare Pokemon to transfer to the main games.

I don't have a laptop or a smartphone that I can bring with me everywhere I go, so I find the Pokedex 3D Pro very useful when not at home. Dream Radar was cheap enough for me to buy, even if it's nothing special. I prefer using this over the Dream World.

    6. Well fair enough I'll give Conquest and Rumble 2 credit as an decent game. But Mystery Dungeon 3 suckt so bad I don't even consider it as game. And the Dream Radar as actual spin-off game? Sorry no...

  7. Pokémon Stadium. I enjoyed it a lot and it probably was the best battle simulator we had up to now. And yes I prefer Stadium over Pokémon Stadium 2 just because of two words: Challenge Cup! That was awful and instead of only making one cup with it they actually had to split it into Poké, Great, Ultra and Master Ball? Worst decision ever...

  8. Stadium 2 was great fun and actually doable on Rentals mode (R1 for some of the PS1 shit was IMPOSSIBLE with rentals, I swear), but I'm going to have to go with TCG. Nintendo (and we can squarely place the blame on this one on Nintendo) will never make another game like this, excepting the unexported sequel, especially now that they have that huge moneymaking TCG Online thing.

    1. TCG is actually one of the very rare games that weren't designed by The Pokémon Company

    2. I can assume a sequel would be done by Nintendo, expecially since they bought the series off of WotC.

  9. The Trading Card Game for Game Boy Color was fun despite the AI roulette that made them impossible or pathetic...

  10. I'll say Stadium 2. Sure, Stadium 1, Snap and Pinball was fun, while Puzzle League was pathetic (Panel De Pon was better), and I never played Puzzle Challenge or the TCG series, and Stadium 2 was fun for its diversity and minigames.
