Announcement poll results

I'm closing this now, if only because I want to prevent vote-switching once the announcement does come in. Also, no screw-ups from the site itself! This bodes well for the impending Star/Turd voting...

A new Pokémon reveal was by far the most popular option, with 129 votes out of 233. It's also a very likely possibility, given the Eeveelution tweet situation. Coming in second, with 45 votes... RSE remakes? Guys, I'm not impressed. That's almost one out of five! After that we have the gen 6 games themselves, at 21 votes - and considering how much they're hyping this up, and the fact that Satoru Iwata will be the one doing the deed, it's quite possible. In fact, we could very well see BOTH the games and a new Pokémon being shown. Then we have the prospect of a spin-off with 16 votes, anything not in the poll with 14 votes (even though I think I covered just about every possibility), an event with 7 votes, and a new alternate form with the Forever Alone guy.

Just over 9 hours left as of this writing...

Edit: And as I suggested, we got a double whammy, with both the games and the starters, as well as what appears to be the uber mascots. Congratulations to everyone who got it right! (Though I suppose I could've included an option for both in the poll...)

  1. Yeah, there's a huge amount of people on Bulbagarden Forums who are convinced that the RSE remakes will come this year.

    Just be patient...

    1. And we see what I think are the version mascot legendaries.

  3. Pokemon X and Y for the 3DS (and they thought Black and White, as well as Black and White 2, were weird names) for this October with the reveal of the starters. Well, you were right, Slow. Here is to hoping that these new starters will be unique and be able to be companions throughout the entire adventure...

  4. At least they nailed a good first impression this time. They made it look amazing even though we barely saw any actual gameplay footage ! I'm so hyped up already...

  5. Wow. Wow. WOW. I came just expecting the new Eeveelution (we'll probably still get it on Thursday though), and I went on Serebii.net to find out several things. Here are my [longwinded] opinions on them:

-Pokemon X and Y: At first I thought they were awful names, but in hindsight they're pretty good; they're intriguing, interesting and unpredictable.

-3D Graphics: Whoa. This was the big one for me. I'm really happy that it's taking the biggest graphical jump since, well, ever, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. My only problem with it though is the loss of pixel sprites: are they gone forever, or will they still be there SOMEWHERE?

-October Release Date, WORLDWIDE: Oh. My. God. We're not just gonna have it in our hands before Halloween: it's going to have a SIMULTAENOUS release. That is so AWESOME!!!

(The rest will be in a reply to this as this is getting big.)

    1. -Gen VI Starters: Once again, AWESOME. These starters just have so much potential for their final form, and they might be the first starters since Gen IV where they were anything more than worthless crap.

I'm really liking Fennekin at the moment (obviously that's a fox) and currently Froakie the frog is my favourite (I've overused this word, but Froakie is indeed awesome). I can imagine Fennekin's final stage being Fire/Electric, and Froakie... I don't know, Water/Poison?

As for Chespin... I just don't like it. At the moment it's the Oshawott Of Gen V for me. And what the hell is it, anyway? It looks like a Teddiursa wearing a Slowking hat made of grass. What the hell IS IT, anyway? Does anyone know!?

All in all, the graphics are awesome, the Pokemon look good, and overall it looks like a brilliant game. Can't wait 'till October. :P

    2. I think Chespin is based on the Chestnut and has similarities to Hedgehogs.

As for secondary types, this is what I'm thinking.

      Fennekin: Fire/Psychic
      Chespin: Grass/Dark
      Froakie: Water/Fighting

    3. I don't really like those types, though. It basically gives each starter an advantage on the starter that's strong against it through the secondary type.

    4. Funnily enough, I've heard the exact opposite - Fire/Psychic, Water/Dark, Grass/Fighting. Supposedly, the move Froakie was seen using in the video was Night Slash.

    5. Then what was Chespin using? There's no way to know for sure, but we've wanted that reverse secondary typing cycle for a while now. It'd suck if they just went the other way around.

    6. And further looking at the trailer, Fennkin is showing using an attack that looks very much like a psychic type move against a Kirlia. Further evidence of a psychic typed evolution. And I think the move Chespin was using looked more like Night Slash than what Froakie was using.

    7. I'd really like if the gen 6 starters turned out to be grass/dark fire/psychic and water/fighting. The closest that starters have come to having an advantage against the one they're normally weak to was gen 4, where Torterra had ground moves for Infernape and Infernape had fighting moves for Empoleon. I'd love for this idea to be expanded on with gen 6!

  6. I'm hoping genetics is a major theme of this game, considering the title, though it might be too hard to work that in considering Pokemon's main demographic. This looks like it's going to be awesome!

  7. Slowflake, I know this is a while off - seen as you're not finished with Pokémon White, and yet to Let's Play (I assume) White 2, but how do you plan on recording these new 3DS titles? Will you be getting a 3DS w/ Capture Board?

    1. As I've explained before, I'm simply not touching gen 6 until emulation reaches the point where it's doable.

    2. I understand. I really love your LPs, especially the Pokémon ones, hope emulation becomes possible soon. I'm working my way forward, currently half-way through your Crystal LP, hence why I was unaware, my apologies.

    3. No problem. I've planned for just such a thing though, there'll be loads of bonus content in the White 2 LP.

    4. Well it seems that whenever you say you can't LP a Pokemon game, a 'miracle' happens to make sure you do:

      1. You couldn't do a Platinum LP with your old computer, but you got a new one and all I was fine (this is the weakest 'miracle')
      2. You weren't gonna do a White LP originally because you were going to wait till Grey came out, but as it was never made, you finally LPed White in the end.
      3. You wouldn't of even been able to do a White 2 LP if the game was never made (obviously).

So hopefully, by the time your White 2 LP finishes (which will probably be mid 2014 or later), there will be a method to emulate 3DS games.

  8. After the awful way they revealed B2W2 (It took almost two months to get any information whatsoever), I'm glad they're revealing XY (it's gonna take a few days to get used to writng that) the 'right' way. And with XY being released in the West at the same time as Japan, there'll be no more jealousy/impatience going on. 2013's gonna be awesome.

  9. Wow. I expected Gen VI games on the 3DS, but in 3D? Amazing.

And for some reason, Chespin reminds me of the Waddlewing enemies from NSMBU.

  10. The names Pokémon X and Y got me thinking about the matter of the deluxe version. The obvious thing seems to be that they will make a Z Version, but that would be too obvious. It seems that some people think that genetics might be a major theme in these games (because of X and Y chromosomes?) which would be really cool if they hadn't done that already in Gen 1. Then again, the narrative power of this series is getting better by the generation, and a new Pokémon game is a new Pokémon game.

The graphics. Oh my gosh the graphics. The animations look so much better than the DS games, it's crazy. (Also, the male character is totally Arin Grump.) I just hope battle animations are still going to be optional.... Even the starters are alright. It's clear that they sort of ran out of animals, but otherwise they fit the role of basic starters well enough. They're all cute elemental animals that will probably evolve into "cool" elemental animals.

  11. I like the look of the bird Legendary more than the deer, but that is just me...

  12. Also, I like that they're not going with the "total reboot" route again with this one, given that pokemon like Psyduck, Kirlia, Golurk, Litwick, and others appeared in the trailer along with the gen 6 pokemon. I don't know how big the regional dex will be for gen 6, but I'm hoping it will be at least as big as BW2's since it definitely worked for those games!

  13. The names of the legendry pokemon have been revealled.

The blue deer is called Xerneas, pronounced ZYRR-nee-us
The red bird is called Yvental, pronounced ee-VELL-tall
