Obvious gen 6 hint from Junichi Masuda

Straight from Serebii:

Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream has posted a greetings card sent out by GameFreak. This greetings card doesn't reveal much news but does state that Junichi Masuda has said that during 2013, they intend to further evolve the world of Pokémon. It's currently unclear as to what exactly this means for Pokémon games but we'll bring the announcements as they come.

Well if he was trying to be subtle, he failed miserably. Just watch though, people that are completely out of the loop are still going to either have no clue what he's talking about or take this as a confirmation of RSE remakes this year.

  1. Why would it be evolving the world of Pokemon to release a remake? Either way, it's very possible it could be something other than gen 6, like a new spin-off game. I wouldn't be surprised. Remember Pokepark?

    1. I don't think any spin-off would be worth that kind of words, especially since Gamefreak doesn't even make them.

  2. I know that there most likely won't be a RSE any time soon but i still kind of want one but oh well. i guess i might have to get the 3ds as well so i can even play gen 6.

  3. The way I take it, Gen 5 is the last of the Gen's with the mechanics introduced in the 3rd Gen and Gen 6 will be on the 3DS with new mechanics for natures, IVs, EV's, Shinies etc. I'd like to see natures that can boost or hinder the HP stat for example.

    1. That'll be difficult, because it seems like HP is much more difficult to alter for some reason. The proof is that none of the alternate forms in the entire game have a different HP stat.

Besides, I'm not sure I like that. HP-boosting natures will become the go-to option for any defensive Pokémon that doesn't already have incredibly high HP.

    2. You may be partly right, but I don't think you're fully right in saying that HP would be difficult to program. I think the reason alternate forms have the same HP stat as the normal forms is to do with the effect of pokemon that can change form and the HP stat possibly turning negative if the two forms had different HP stats. In a battle situation, Such as with Meloetta's Relic Song, if Meloetta's Aria and Pirhouette forms had different HP stat, there's a risk that Meloetta could change when at low health then instantly faint. Outside of battle, such as with Rotom, a form change, assuming that the appliance forms have more HP than vanilla Rotom, could give Rotom a negative current HP, and we all saw what that would do with the Emerald Pomeg glitch.

That would be tough to program to be sure it doesn't go wrong, but that doesn't stop the nature suggestion. And for your reasoning of HP boosting natures becoming the go to may not be true. I think even if a Blissey had about 810HP or whatever, it would still be 2HKOed by a powerful physical move.

    3. Here's the problem, though. An HP-boosting nature increases your survivability by 10% against both physical and special attacks, whereas a defense-boosting nature increases your survivability by 10% against only one of these.

    4. You have a point in that it would make natures such as Bold and Careful obsolete in simulator play that I will agree. Though that being said, it could be enough to help balance out the power creep that the 5th Gen created.

  4. Can't those RSE fanboys just give in? Yeah, we all know it'll happen someday, but not till 2014 at least.

Anyway, I guess they'll be revealing the first Gen VI Pokémon in the next couple of months. It'll probably be next gen's version of Lucario or Zoroark, or next gen's pixie (eg. Mew or Victini). Let the speculation begin, I guess.

    1. My money's on 2015 at the earliest, for the simple reason that the soonest that the second game of a generation came out was FRLG, just under a year and a half after Ruby and Sapphire. In fact, I'm tempted to say that either it will happen in 2015, or it won't happen at all.

    2. Hmm, I guess so. But you never know, it might be released in 2015 - I mean, you know how unpredictable the games and release dates became this gen.

    3. Most of what has to do with release timing was due to the fact that gen 5 was on a dying system. We're probably going to go back to something more conventional in gen 6.

My one hope, though, is that since gen 5 was shorter and they had less time to come up with new ideas for Pokémon, they don't feel forced to introduce too many of them. 100 would be absolutely fine.

  5. We may be getting something soon, as some of the Genesect movie merchandise has been revealed. Two pieces are blanked out and, quoting serebii...

While there have been occasions where these omissions have been simple Pokémon like Pikachu and Excadrill, it typically showcases new Pokémon or alternate forms for various Pokémon. As of yet it's unclear what is coming but we'll keep you apprised of any developments

    1. Two new Pokémon for sure. It definitely isn't two new forms...

  6. Here's my question:
If they are announcing generation 6 pokemon as early as the Genesect movie, would that mean we'd be expecting a late 2013 release of the Gen 6 games?

    1. In theory, they're going to be announcing the first new Pokémon in about two months, give or take a few weeks. Either way, a late 2013 release has been a certainty for a good while now.
