A friendly reminder

If you're going to play SMB1 in public, make sure you're either super-skilled, or adequately prepared. Otherwise it WILL end in tears. Modern gaming has made us into wusses, hasn't it?

  1. Is there a story behind this?

Also, the difficulty of SMB1 is mostly based on the horribly stiff controls, in my opinion. The lack of air control during a jump is almost the entire reason for the difficulty, in my opinion. Were it to be remade with SMW or NSMB controls, it would be the easiest 2D Mario game ever.

    1. Note to self: Always check post before submitting, and repeating 'in my opinion' for two sentences in a row sounds stupid as hell.

    2. Never mind, I just remembered the marathon, ha. This is the last time I will talk to myself, I swear.

  2. That was downright awful. They are called The Speed Gamers, and it takes two and a half hours to beat Super Mario Bros.? Really? For the heck of it, I played it for the first time in months, and I got it done with two game-overs and in less than 30 minutes; A little more practice surely would have gone a long way. They should have finished The Lost Levels in that time scale. Then again, what do I know about rushing through a game in front of hundreds of people?

At least it was hilarious when they finally got to the stair steps at the end of 8-3 as Fire Mario, only to miss the first jump entirely! Also, how is that electric shock device legal? Yikes!

    1. Well there's been far worse before. Remember that time when Phil tried to beat Exdeath through a method that was fixed in the GBA version?

  3. I don't know about you, but I find SMB2 and SMB3 significantly harder than SMB1. I don't what it is, but they just seem harder to me. Even Lost Levels is easier, as when you get a game over you just continue at the start of the level again (though only the All Stars version), but it can still easily make you insane.

NSMB Wii is probably the hardest Mario game since the NES age though, but at least it's beatable.

  4. I was going to insult them, but I have never beaten Mario 1 myself. Yes, modern gaming has indeed made many gamers wusses. Other young gamers, like me, have played and enjoyed old games that could be considered hard (thanks to Virtual Console and emulators), like the Mega Man games (9 and 10 are thanks to it being on the more modern consoles). Speaking of Mega Man, what say you on the Street Fighter X Mega Man game to come out this Monday? Thankfully, it is a Mega Man game with the Street Fighter characters as bosses, so if you hate Street Fighter, you can take out your anger on eight plus of the Street Fighter characters...

  5. ...and then the marathon ends with Super Mario Bros. getting totally demolished! Wow, that ownage sure came out of nowhere, and was the icing on the delicious cake that was the Mario marathon!

    1. Not sure why the marathon didn't open with that. Judging by the torrential rain of insults Oscar got, his run was a turn-off to many first-timers.
