Nine years later, I still haven't recovered.

WITH A MOBLIN. Seriously. Someone actually thought of it without being grossed out and thought, this isn't too far out of place in a Zelda game. And the ESRB rated it E. Yup.

Random question of the day: what's the most disturbing and out-of-place thing you've ever seen in a video game? Note that I'm not talking about most disturbing outright, like, say, the puzzle in Amnesia where you drill a hole in a dead guy's head, get some blood from it and inject yourself with it, because that's close enough to par for the course in that game. I'm talking, the game's all flowers and rainbows, except for that one part.

  1. Oh god... You just reminded me about one. It's not really "that" disturbing... but it did leave some "after-effects" since it was back when I was a child.
I don't remember precisely what happened, but somehow I got a fatal error on my N64 Diddy Kong Racing cartridge and the game played a very loud and scary sound which played at the same time as the error message appeared. Since I wasn't expecting it at all, it scared me like hell and I can still sometime hear that sound during my worst nightmares. Whenever I hear it, I feel like I'm completely screwed, that I'm going to die soon and that there's not a damn thing I can do about it...
    Yeah... Childhood Trauma FTW ?

Just in case my memory screwed up big time and that my first choice doesn't even exist, I'd say the "Screamer" during Marx Soul's death scene in Kirby Super Star Ultra. It didn't scare me at all, but it really felt out of place in a Kirby game.

    1. "-EPC: If the game crashes (unlikely), it displays an error screen next time the game is started up."

Oh... Just found that out in a list of Magic Codes. I think remember now, I found a source with these codes, I don't remember exactly which, but there was written "Effect Unknown" next to this particular code. Of course, curious like I've always been, I just had to try it out. And of course, with my usual wonderful luck, I DID manage to crash the game. So what really happened is just my curiosity putting me in trouble, nothing new...

  2. Metroid Prime 3 is pretty dark game for a Nintendo franchise, but there's little in the game you could call scary or disturbing. There's just one area of Elysia that freaks me out, the Metroid labs. You're always pressing your face up against doors because the loading times are long, but it never fails to scare the shit out of me when a Space Pirate body leaning on the other side of a door falls onto Samus and disintegrates on her visor.

    1. Ah, I know what you mean. Scary as all hell, especially since you don't have the foolproof Metroid-slaying methods from the first two games anymore.

  3. To me, one room that creeped me out big time in the pokémon games is N's bedroom in N's Castle.

  4. For me MLB Power pros (ironically I'm doing an lp of it) the games rated e and its very calm and friendly then comes a character who says and i quote "Fuck you (insert name here) Fuck you right in the ass" it just takes you back.

  5. Zero 2 from Kirby 64 fits this question to a "T". Blood... in a Kirby game??? 'o_O

  6. Also, a lot of pokedex lores tend to clash with the general tone of the series. Most pokemon are portrayed by the anime and the games' npcs as being like cute little stuffed-animal friends, with everything all happy and teamwork and potential... But then you read the dex entries and hear about pokemon eating each other, any given ghost type being able to suck out your soul, and ones like charmander and spoink dropping dead at the drop of a hat. That's right--the pokedex is one of the biggest wtfs in gaming! XD

  7. Pikmin, with the big, harmless looking mushroom that shoots out his spores, and gives your pikmin some sort of horrible mutation that causes their skin to discolor and their eyes to turn to a pure, psycho-murder white, after which they then latch on to your skull and proceed to RIP OFF YOUR FACE.

Also worthy of note is the first time you see the real Mimi in Super Paper Mario. Ewwwwwwwww...

    1. I always assumed the real Mimi was her imp form, and the spider form was just some witchcraft transformation or something. Oh well, they never make it clear either way.

  8. That part of Earthbound... no, NOT GIYGAS. That part where you see Poo's Muu training. He sits down and the creepiest track I ever heard starts playing. Some girl asks him to stop, then goes away. Then you see the ghost of one of his ancestors.. or something.. and it starts ripping off Poo's body parts. The thing that's extra disturbing is he asks permission to do it before taking each body part. If you ever say "no" you have to start over, so you have to give him your consent to take away your arms, legs, eyes, ears, and finally your mind before you can continue the game. Scared the f*** out of me when I was 8.

    1. Slowflake only bans people who don't follow his rules. He has the right to do so because it's his channel and he can manage it in whichever way he wants to. I have no idea of who you're talking about, but if that person didn't bother following the rules, which are all simple to understand for anybody with at least a little bit of common sense, then you have no right to spit out insults about it.

You'll probably be the next target of the Ban-hammer, by the way. Just saying.

It wouldn't be Slowflake if nobody got banned. ;D

    2. Ranking among the top 100 douchebags on YouTube isn't cause for someone to want to keep them the hell away from their channel now? Duly noted.

  10. I don't remember a rule that said "ask for more hello kitty LPs and you'll get banned" =(

    1. "DO NOT:

      - Submit requests for LPs or any sort of video, because I do not take them."

It counts as a request. Like I said, "common sense".

    2. The problem wasn't that he didn't follow that rule, it's never been an instant ban (else I'd probably have around 500 more of these). It's that he did it on EVERY GODDAMN VIDEO I MADE.

    3. Well as long as I can still watch your LPs, I'm fine with not being able to comment. (It was totally worth it, too)

  11. I will go the easy route and say Giygas. Other than Poo's training scene where he dreamed he got dismembered, blinded, and deafened by a spirit, EarthBound was pretty happy. Then they throw one of the most disturbing things ever at you. Also, it is ironic that EarthBound is my favorite game (hate me now, but let me have my opinion), but I have not found the time to beat it yet...
