Nope, this isn't Pokémon. Not at all.

Ever heard of a Facebook game called Monsters Planet? Well, I just found out about it through this thread on the TSG forums. Just look at those pictures, and tell me it doesn't look awfully familiar. Looking through a fansite for this game, I found out some weird things that I wrote about in that thread. Baby Zapdos lol. Is this where we're standing as a species? Are we completely out of ideas? I mean, sheesh, at least Digimon was slightly more subtle in its blatant ripping off of Pokémon. Slightly. This, on the other hand, is utterly shameless.

  1. The only way this could've been a more blatent rip-off, would be if they named it Planémon. I mean, a bunch of those don't even look altered, for frick sake.

    1. I know, right? Whiscash has whiskers on its forehead, so it's TOTALLY different! And Lanturn's antennae (or whatever they're supposed to be called are separated instead of bunched together! CREATIVE JUICE OVERLOAD!

  2. It's like the creator of Happy Tree Friends decided to parody Pokémon on deviantart.

    ...YOUR NEXT LP AFTER WHITE?!

  3. Yeah, this IS a rip-off. Hm, shamelessly ripping off Pokemon. NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE! That was sarcasm. No, I am not getting a Facebook because of this. I can just play REAL competitive Pokemon. Seriously, between White (new copy because my old was stolen with my DS and 3DS; have to use my brother's) and Pokemon Online, I have a team with banned Pokemon, a team without banned Pokemon, a Battle Box team with not banned Pokemon, an OU team, an Uber Sun team (my most used in Pokemon Online), an Uber rain team, AND an Uber sandstorm team. That is about SEVEN TEAMS I can use, three of which on my copy of White, instead of trying that Pokemon rip-off. Especially if it turns out to be utter crap. No, those teams do not have 42 different Pokemon. In fact, in my banned and Uber teams, they all have Mewtwo in them. Just as an example. No, I have no hail team because hail SUCKS!...

  4. Digimon wasn't a rip-off of Pokemon. The only thing it has in common is that it's about monsters (though a few Digimon do look like Pokemon, some Pokemon look like Digimon as well).

  5. I say all monster collecting RPGs are plagiarized entirely from dragon warrior monsters.

  6. now I get ripping off monster rpgs, but i dont see.... how who ever did that will not be getting burned by nintendo. did they think the age of Pokemon was over and that it was obscure or something?
I dunno, I don't understand the art of plagiary without getting burned

  7. While I agree that Digimon ripped off Pokémon quite a bit, at least it had a decent anime show with actual character development and most of the games were also totally different.

THIS, however, is entirely unforgivable. Wow. When ripping off something, the logic thing to do would be to try at least to be creative about it, right ? Wow...

  8. I'm hoping that your "Digimon ripping off Pokémon" comment was in jest because honestly they have totally different origins. Digimon was a Tamagotchi for males which got a 13-episode show, which proved successful so they extended it. Pokémon was based on their GameBoy games. Neither of them copied one another.

And most Facebook games are rip-offs of some other kind of game, all of which are about as subtle as a brick. It's because they're programmed and churned out so quickly and cheaply and they don't bother with actual writers or creative teams.

  9. http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3464916

Saw a thread about this a while back. There are a bunch of good links among those few pages. Honestly, how do these people sleep at night? This is just so terribly blatant!

By the way, do you have a Smogon account?

  10. It doesn't surprise me that people are ripping off Pokémon. It's popular, so it's no surprise that people want to play off of the popularity.

What I can't understand is why people are actually defending the "game". It's pretty much indefensible! But then again, these people are playing Facebook games of all things...
