Poll change: last gen was the best gen

I was genuinely curious to see what the results of the favorite home console poll were going to be, and despite my work being hugely Nintendo-centric, it's still the PS2 that managed to come out on top over the Gamecube by a single vote, 51 to 50. The rest of the top 5 is rounded out by a trio of other Nintendo consoles, though, with the N64 at 32, the Wii at 28 and the SNES at 21. The Xbox 360 at 17 and the PS1 at 11 were the only other consoles to get in double digit-land. After these comes the PS3 with 6 votes, the Genesis with 5, the NES with 3, the Dreamcast and Xbox with 2, the Saturn with 1, and the Master System with 0.

As for the "Other" option, it somehow got 6 votes, way more than I expected. What consoles were these votes for? The Atari 2600? The Intellivision? The Jaguar? Why not the Magnavox Odyssey while we're at it? Heck, God forbid, the CD-I? I thought the available options were enough to get every single vote out there... to be honest, I was debating whether to put the Master System on there, because Sega only really bloomed with the Genesis, but I decided, eh, why not... and no one voted for it. Speaking of Sega, the total whomping it got was by far the biggest surprise for me. Put together, its consoles only got eight votes. For a company that used to rival Nintendo, that's downright pathetic.

Next question: when did you start watching my videos? To be honest I'm not expecting a whole lot of Red and Crystal, considering I was under 1000 subs until well into Emerald, but hey, let's see.

  1. Pokemon Crystal - Part 123... One of the best days of my life

  2. Technically, I first saw you in Sonic 2 (a while since you had completed it), but I started really watching your Emerald LP, then subbed when I started that again. By then, you were just finishing Platinum. So, in terms of first discovering you: Sonic 2 LP. In terms of LP watching archives of while subbing, Emerald. In terms of LP going on when I subbed, Platinum. Voting for Emerald, then, I guess...

  3. I started following you two Episodes before you found the shiny Magikarp in Emerald. It was through your Crystal videos being in the related section of Chugga's Crystal videos. I checked your channel and watched a couple of Emerald videos then went back to Crytal (which is my favourite LP of yours), then Red and then Emerald where you were at Lilycove by then. I believe I subscribed to you around then as well.

  4. I remember looking up some Smogon videos on YouTube, and lo and behold! A wild Let's Player appeared! That was at a time when I was downright obsessed with the history of the Pokémon metagame, and when I saw someone talking about such things (while playing video games, no less), I made it a goal to watch all your Pokémon videos. I think I first saw you early-Emerald, but I wasn't up-to-date until Platinum started.

Interesting thing to note: you introduced me to Chuggaaconroy, and not the other way around!

  5. I've been around since Crystal, but after a while I didn't really watch your videos. I think it was because you blocked me and I was a stupid kid, so I took a break. A while later, I matured into a less idiotic kid. I've practically watched all your LPs from start to finish (Even staved my way through the more boring episodes).

I also find your Red LP a good metaphor for Gen I all together. Fun the first time. Trying to rewatch it after much better sequels were made? Not so much... (Not saying it's bad, it's just meh after you've done other, better games)

  6. I think I started with your Crystal LP, which I came across through the related videos of someone else's Crystal LP (No, it wasn't through Chuggaa's Crystal LP). And when your Emerald LP started, I decided to watch your Red LP, and then afterwards I went back to your Emerald LP, and I've been watching your videos ever since.

  7. I think that I'm safe in claiming that I'm your oldest lasting fan, though that sounds arrogant to say. I've been following you long before you even started LPs, back when you were just a name doing written rants on GameFAQs. I followed you to Libelldra when you left GameFAQs, as the content you produced there was even better. I was your second-ever subscriber, I think only after Wiik, and I was the first viewer of your first episode of Pokemon Red. I still remember when you updated your topic with every new episode that you made, and I've watched every video you've made since. Hell, I went back and found archives of your written rants, and I've read every one of those a couple of times each.

  8. I hate it when I write a huge comment filled with details and then I find out I was not signed in on Blogger anymore and that I lost everything after clicking on "Publish"...

Oh well, I take it as my cue that you probably wouldn't have cared anyway. Here's a short version that simply answer the question without rambling on.

Your first video I found was the first part of your Sonic 2 LP, which I think I watched when you were starting Soul Silver, but I'm not exactly sure.

  9. This may sound insane, but I started watching your videos with the Ken's Labyrinth walkthrough. Because, like you say, it's the only LP of the game that exists on youtube. I was IV breeding crabbies while I listened to you whine about killer 8-balls and the stupid dog that does nothing but get in the way. Good times. Back then you were still making crystal videos.

  10. Started watching during Crystal. At first, I didn't like your voice, but as your English got better, I started realizing that your commentary was insightful and informative, and I was a subscriber from than on.

Also, this doesn't have anything to do with this article. But, just to warn you, Quebec is going to get a lot more crowded. Since that socialist guy got elected in France, and people are talking about leaving France and headed to other French speaking places. And the reason that I'm telling you this is because I live in one of the places that will get crowded, south Louisiana.

    1. Well if they hope to get away from socialism and come HERE of all places, they're going to have a nasty, NASTY surprise.

Regardless, I wouldn't read too much into it. We didn't get any kind of exodus at all after Harper got elected, after all. Even if some people say "I'll leave if this guy gets elected", it NEVER happens. And if someone actually brings up the possibility in the media, it's most likely to be extremists from the opposite camp. Like Fox News, for instance. And we all know how trustworthy these guys are.

  12. Starting Watching during late Red. I've stuck to the pokemon stuff, with the recent Sonic 2 being the first non-pokemon LP.
