Japanese event trolls the competitive community

According to Serebii, a new event in Japan will see four Pokémon (Ninetales, Chandelure, Whimsicott and Lucario) being distributed. The catch? Ninetales and Lucario will have their DW abilities, but Chandelure and Whimsicott won't. Way to taunt us, Gamefreak. They really, really don't want to distribute gen 5 Pokémon with DW abilities, huh?

  1. Breaking news 2017! Almost half of all DW abilities have been released, and only at the end of gen 6!

    1. You'd be surprised, the list of gen 1-4 Pokémon that didn't have their DW abilities released is shockingly short. And most of them are legendaries.

  2. I wouldnt be surprised if wild pokemon had DW abilities in BW2

    1. I would. Else what would the point of having these abilities be special be? What would be the purpose of the Dream World? Besides, Pokémon with DW abilities have a special flag activated, and it's that flag that overrides the regular abilities. See that Drizzle Politoed you got? It actually has either Damp or Water Absorb, but these are overwritten by the DW flag. And I don't think Pokémon that are randomly generated by the game are ever going to have that flag.

  3. Maybe there's something about B/W that can't handle 5th-Gen Pokemon having Dream World abilities. Something involving the code or the link from the DW to B/W. That's my only real explanation.

    1. It has nothing to do with B/W itself, and everything to do with the Entralink. Gen 5 sprites haven't been programmed into it, but that doesn't mean gen 5 Pokémon can't have DW abilities. One, said abilities were programmed into the game, and two, you can find Musharna and Darmanitan with their DW abilities in the game already.

    2. There's a picture with Crustle on the overworld, so it's probable they'll incorporate G5 Pokémon into the regular DW starting with BW2.

    3. Problem is, there were already a few gen 5 Pokémon with overworld sprites in the first game, but they still weren't programmed in the Entralink either way.

  4. Ok, Whimsicott without a DW ability (I don't even know what it is, but it can't be better than Prankster) I can see, but CHANDELURE? Gamefreak is most certainly trolling us now. Any bets that Sheer Force Totodile will have neither Ice Punch nor Dragon Dance when it comes out?

  5. The Pokemon with the DW abilities are male, while the two Gen V Pokemon are female. So GF really DID know and they really trolled us here.

    1. Event Pokémon with DW abilities are almost always male to begin with (Justified Lucario for instance had another male-only event before).
