V-Create Rayquaza distributed in Japan

While we were busy with our own popularity poll, Japan had one pitting the version mascots against each other. As it turns out, Rayquaza won, ahead of Pikachu and Reshiram. Now of course they needed to make this Rayquaza special, so they decided to tack on V-Create for kicks. Interesting... Rayquaza is actually capable of making use of this, especially given the obvious synergy with Outrage, so I'm curious to see how it'll turn out.

Now there are two questions I need to ask. Did they decide to go with V-Create because Rayquaza has no DW ability, and were they planning to give the winner its DW ability if it had one? If so, HUGE opportunity missed to make Lugia or Ho-Oh godly. Secondly, how does Rayquaza have that much of a following in Asia? First it won the "befriend a Pokémon" poll in Korea, now this. In the West it's just about considered "just another Pokémon", at least as far as I know. I have never once encountered an actual dedicated Rayquaza fan. So what's the deal?

  1. While Rayquaza may not have a dedicated following in the west, its always been very popular. Everyone has a favourite Pokemon but everybody loves Raymond, uh I mean Rayquaza.

    1. Yeah, but if Rayquaza is nobody's favorite, then it can't win. They didn't ask for second or third choices, so that means a lot of people must favor Rayquaza over all else.

  2. I've always seen Rayquaza as an Eastern Dragon stereotype, so maybe that has something to do with it. Thanks for explaining the contest. I had heard about it, but the info I got was confusing and implied Rayquaza won the popularity contest that Arceus won over here.

  3. Pretty much what ShadianVise said. Eastern Dragons are apparently that badass.

    1. And Western dragons are ridiculously popular in the West, which explains Zardtards. I'm no Japanophile, but I will say Asians have better taste in dragons...

  4. I like Rayquaza's "backstory", if you know what I mean. It's the Guardian of the Sky, flying endlessly in the ozone layer and all. Sadly, it wasn't emphasized pretty much in the games, even in Emerald and I guess that's why it is often overlooked here, aside from the obvious preferences over western dragons already mentioned.

I know that maybe I'm going too far, but I think they should give it an access to Aeroblast, which would be more fitting for it and it would give it a GOOD Flying STAB. I know that it's Lugia's signature move, but don't you agree that it would fit so well ?

I'm not saying that V-Create is bad ! It just seems... out of place a little... I guess I'm the only Pokemon player in the world giving moves to Pokemons because they fit with their Pokedex entries in one way or another...
(For exemple, sacrifying the coverage of a fire type move and giving Aqua Tail to my in-game Dragonite because I think it fits better...)

    1. Isn't V-Create something specific to Victini? I think it's okay to give Rayquaza this but as TheLonesomeDemon said I think something like Aeroblast would be better if we're going for a different legendaries signature move.

    2. I agree that Aeroblast would make a lot more sense, but I like the idea of V-create on Rayquaza more. Rayquaza already has access to Air Slash, so Aeroblast wouldn't be nearly as much of an improvement as V-create, especially as Rayquaza didn't get physical fire moves before this.

    3. Kyle: V-Create is specific to Victini, but just look at all the legendary signature moves that were passed around like candy. Roar of Time, Spacial Rend, Shadow Force, Fusion Flare, Fusion Bolt...

    4. Another option would be giving it its own signature move. I know that these kind of moves were not really introduced yet in Gen 3, but still, they DID give one to Mewtwo this Gen. But maybe they want to wait until they decide if they will really work on a Ruby/Saphire remake or not.

    5. I guarantee it's already been decided. They're stuck on the DS until the end of this generation, and not a single man-hour was invested into such a game just two months ago. Not to mention, they can't introduce a new move smack in the middle of a generation - if they had any plans to give it a signature move, they would've included it in the game code already, like they did for Victini and Kyurem.

  5. I kinda would like to see something different though. Would like to see I dunno, Lapras or Breloom or something along those lines get something fancy for once. Not ubers, not Mudkipz, not legendaries, etc.

  6. I'm a pretty hard Rayquaza fan, and try to include it in all my uber teams. Hell I even did a run of White with one, starting it off at level 15
