It's almost over...

Almost three years and a half ago I started Let's Playing Pokémon games, not knowing where that would take me, how long I would last, or how successful I'd be at it. When I think about it, I'm really happy with how far I've come. It provided me with a great hobby, as well as an opportunity to improve my spoken English. And it appears it also entertained a lot of you guys. This is why it's difficult to let go... but I'm going to have to, I've run out of games. One more video (no way Groudon takes more than ten minutes, not with Heavy Balls), and that's going to be all she wrote.

That doesn't mean it's the end of my LPing career, though. Banjo-Kazooie is still underway, and S3&K after that, and hopefully more games afterwards. It's just my main thing that's coming to an end. It feels awkward, because these Pokémon LPs are what I'm known for, and in a few days they'll be done and over with (at least until Gray's international release). It's like if McDonald's stopped selling their Big Mac, except on a smaller scale of course. I'm hoping I can pull off what DeliciousCinnamon managed to do (in a lot less time than I did, admittedly) - come for the Pokeymanz, stay for everything else.

As I write this, it's tough to avoid getting emotional, and I admit I'm sort of sad, but at the same time I can't afford to go downhill. Many people would like me to move on to spin-offs like Mystery Dungeon, but it's just impossible for me to do them justice. Especially since Mystery Dungeon technically has no end to speak of, and is mighty frustrating just playing. Imagine recording at the same time. So I'll stick with the evils I know, thank you very much.

See you back on Freezeezy Peak!

  1. I've got to admit, it was your LP of either Red and Crystal that got me liking LPs, and I must have liked them a lot, since I've still been watching your videos for the last 2 years or so. But as you start doing more non-Pokemon LPs, I think that you'll start to get more viewers and/or fans.

By the way, could we see any more Zelda LPs in the near future?

  2. I just remember sticking on Pokémon Red one day and being enthralled. I think I subscribed during the early days of Pokémon Crystal, and haven't missed an episode since. It was the first LP I actually wanted to keep up with - partly due to the laughs, partly due to the in-depth exploration and discussion, and partly because you didn't pick FUCKING CHARMANDER.

I could bang on about this for ages, but I'll keep it brief: thank you for the hours of entertainment. It's been a heck of a ride.

  3. I know I'll be staying, and I'm betting the majority will stay also.

  4. I started watching Slowflake's videos because after Something Awful banned Pokémon LPs I found myself wanting one, and Slowflake was the only one I could find that didn't have some combination of poor recording quality, poor banter (either too much dead air or too much dead air covered up with lame chatter) and reading all the words off the screen (maybe there's a market for LPs for the blind, but if that's the case you should probably drop the visual component).

Don't suppose there's any LPers who do Pokémon games you'd recommend, are there, Slowflake?

  5. Also, I think you are probably the best at Pokemon LPs, as you don't cut out wild Pokemon battles, you do all the trainer battles, you talk to everyone within the game, etc. - you just 100% the games overall, which most LPers don't do (like Chuggaa, for example). I hope more LPers start to play Pokemon games in the style that you do them.

  6. Been here since mid/early-emerald. So I'm not as much a seasoned veteran as some others. However, I'll be here 'till you officially hang up your spikes and call it a career. I'll be interested in watching S3+K (I can't stand Banjo, first game you played that makes my eyes well up with blood) seeing its my favorite game besides Pokemon Gold/ Soulsilver.

I'll still check your channel everyday like I have been, and read the blog. I'll probably go through Red, Crystal, Emerald and Soulsilver again, and I hope to God they don't get old the 56th time I watch them.

I look forward to grey, where I can continue to have a secret sin.

    Pokemon. xD

  7. I've always been a little afraid you'd stop LPing entirely once the Pokemon thing came to a close. I've watched your videos from day one and haven't missed a single one, ever since you started on Libelldra. I've followed your rants even before that, when you still browsed Gamefaqs boards. In that time, you've grown to be my favorite LPer, and one that's been a constant in my life for over three years. Looking back, it's amazing how much of a difference those years made to your English skills. I know that all good things must come to an end and that this won't last forever, but I can say that you have made a huge impact and I'm really glad you do what you do. Thank you.

  8. I remember watching your Pokemon Red LP about a year ago just to see what that game was like but I learned a lot more. Before then I used my favorite Pokemon or ones I'd seen on videos from LPers like Chuggaa, as well as squandering half my money on repels. But since then I've started looking at sites like Smogon to help with team-building and I've never been under-leveled for any part of the games since I stopped using repels. Reading this was kind of sad, almost like reading an obituary in some ways, although there's still more LPs to come. Anyhow, thanks.

  9. I found you one day on complete accident when you were still doing crystal. since then I have watched every single lp you have done always impressed by how you do them. your style has sort of rubbed off on me I seem to do more grinding now and also take on as many places possible before a gym.I love how you went over current metagame stuff in the pokemon lps. i will miss pokemon lps greatly but will continue to watch and definitely enjoy all of your upcoming games.just wanted to show my thanks for Pokemon lps and all your other ones as well.

  10. I gotta admit, even though I was sort of a late comer to the Pokemon LPs (only coming in halfway through Platinum) I've really enjoyed watching the LPs that were uploaded 2 years ago. It still feels fresh and I for one would be highly entertained if I saw a mystery dungeon LP

  11. man it's crazy to think the pokemon lets plays are coming to the end since I've been following you since near the beginning.. but it's also awesome to look back on it all. I know I personally enjoy rewatching all the lets plays since with your commentary you practically capture the time you were recording them in as you talked about the incoming news about then unreleased games and rumors so it becomes so interesting even beyond the point of watching games I love in a looking back kinda way. And though the pokemon games are pausing for a while, it's still gonna be awesome seeing you continue to take on the different games and i'm looking forward to it (:

  12. Admittedly I started during your Platinum LP while you were also doing the Ocarina of Time LP. Before that wasn't a very big fan of the whole LP thing but your videos are always entertaining, informative and when it comes to the giveaways that Pokemon releases you are usually the first I hear of them from, on top of that when suspect tests come and go your discussions on them are also videos I enjoy watching. Somehow I see you still doing videos on them, and I also still see you mentioning the Pokemon giveaways in your videos just in case people don't always come here, as just a in case type of thing. I really cannot wait for either Gray to be released or for some other Gen-Remake gets made soon. If you really wanted to, you could put up Wifi Battles or something from time to time to give your Pokemon viewers something to watch and you could add your own commentary to it. May not be LP videos but if you want something Pokemon related to put up that isn't Mystery Dungeon or Puzzle League (lolAsh), then Wifi Battles might be a good idea. But it's just a suggestion, whether or not you do it is up to you. Either way I intend to keep watching your future LP's whether or not they're Pokemon LP's since again I do find your videos to be quite amusing and entertaining. Kinda couldn't help but laugh at the whole thing about Xatu in the Elite Four rematches, and the way you reacted when you saw Crasher Wake, was funny.

  13. Man so sad to see you ended with the Pokemon games at least for now. But who knows maybe Zelda could replace Pokemon as you're main series for a while? I would love to see you LP Twilight Princess or Minish Cap.

    1. I've never played Minish Cap, and I would never dare even touch TP's Gamecube version, so the only Zelda game I can see myself LP in the relatively near future is Wind Waker.

  14. Maybe a future LP could be of Kingdom Hearts?

  15. I really enjoyed watching and re-watching your Pokemon Let's Plays. Come on, Pokemon Grey, release yourself already!

Just a random LP suggestion: how about Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy? It's dated, but so was Pokemon Red when you played it, and I don't think it has any frustrating elements like Mystery Dungeon.
