A rundown of the Electivire... I mean Pikachu Cup

I don't know if any of you are intending to participate in that thing, but regardless, here's a nice read on what you could potentially expect to face there. And looking at it, it's amazing just how much Pikachu sucks in this. It has no niche whatsoever, with only Plusle and Rotom-S having less of a point. Emolga's one of the most dangerous Pokémon around. Minun has a niche. Eelektrik has a niche. Dedenne has a niche. So would Electabuzz if this was a simulator thing. Pikachu... just rolls over and dies. It's pretty telling that Raichu's whole point in this tournament is playing a support role with Fake Out, Helping Hand, Encore and Knock Off, despite its defenses being shit (and by that I mean it still looks like Lugia next to Pikachu).

Hope you like Pokémiles!

  1. Maybe this will finally be the time that Game Freak finally stops trying to shove Pikachu down everyone's throat.

    ...who am I kidding?

    1. You know what? I'd actually kinda dig Electivire as the franchise's mascot.

    2. Electivire actually looks pretty freaking badass. It may not be very good comparing it to the field, but it looks cool and is still pretty strong.

    3. If it becomes the mascot, it could get a Mega Evolution. Hell, it could get a Mega Evolution anyway. It's an electric oni. That's badass...

  2. Smogon's BW2 in game tiers list is a mess! Electivire is no where to be found despite how early it comes in the game in White 2. There is however, guys having a boner over Magnezone, though.

    1. To be fair to them, take a wild guess which one is better. Magnezone may be slow, but it is bulky, can counter Skarmory very effectively, loves Rain, and has Volt Switch...

    2. In-game tiers, buddy.

Anyway, I find the concept dumb, because people don't have the same criteria for determining whether something's good in-game or not. I always thought they vastly overrated Pokémon that can be obtained early, for one. Heck, I'm glad they ignored that in this case.

    3. Smogon's in-game tiers seem to be made for people who hate the RPG part of the game and want to speed through it as quickly and efficiently as possible, presumably so they can get to building competitive teams. For those who want to take their time and enjoy the in-game stuff, they're not much use.

    4. On the other hand, it's those tiers that pointed me in the direction of the absurd and horrifying power of Scyther and Scizor ingame in everything after they get Technician.

You think they're bad competitively? That's an environment where they can take things like U-Turn and Pursuit out and focus their entire movepool on murdering shit. It's SCARY.
