Nintendo Direct reveals MD4 information

It was a Japan-only thing, so international players may have missed out on it. Anyway, it's being released in Japan on September 17 (no mention of any specific international release date, though we know it's going to be a few months later). Starter selection includes all starters from gens 1 through 6, as well as Pikachu and Riolu. More interestingly, the game is going to feature every single Pokémon bar Volcanion, making this a clear departure from MD3, which was second to only Colosseum in terms of smallest selection of Pokémon out of any game ever made where you could use them (as opposed to, say, taking pictures of them). The graphical style from MD3 also remains intact. Now let's hope its wonky balance (even compared to the first two) will remain a thing of the past. I mean, you shouldn't be virtually dead the moment you get put to sleep...

  1. Smallest? Less than the 50 or so in Colloseum? I can see why you'd hate that. Granted, I didn't buy Gates to Infinity. Watch as the Pokemon selection is only that good with the Pokemon Rumble World method of micro transactions...despite this game being retail. Riddle me that...

    1. Oh, right, forgot about Colosseum. Then again, if you count evolutions, it's gonna be in the ballpark of 80-100 or so.

    2. Colosseum had a bunch of Pokémon, the issue is that you could only obtain a small number of them. That's a bit different from them not existing at all.

  2. Well, I can see Volcanion as DLC...

  3. That character select screen makes me hopeful. The greedier side of me is wondering where Phanpy, Cubone, Shinx etc. is, but I'll happily take this selection over PMD3's.

    1. Most of those were really bad, though.

    2. I remember Cubone being really good in the first game, granted it's been awhile since I've played it. Now that you mention it Phanpy might not have been good enough to justify all the effort it took to cheat the quiz.

    3. Cubone was ludicrously broken, and Meowth was good as a partner in Sky (it was ok in MD1 I guess), but most other side starter choices were either bad or ok but severely outclassed by a different starter.

And then there's MD2 Skitty. Oh god, MD2 Skitty. May as well just call it "Shitty" because that thing was a good way to get yourself dead.

    4. Makes you wonder why they even made Skitty. Meowth and Persian are still more popular anyway.

    5. The same reason they made all the other old pokemon knockoffs in Gen 3. I'd ask more about things like Gulpin, when the things they're based on are also in RS.
