"Recover the stat boosts a Metroid stole from you in Smash Tour."
Holy shit this is ridiculous. I mean, even the stupidly hard ones, like Classic 9.0 without losing a life, can be done if you're good enough at the game. This, on the other hand, is nothing but dumb luck. And we're not even talking about something that happens every once in a while. You have to:
1. Have a Metroid appear, which only happens once every many, many games
2. Have the Metroid be close enough to you that it steals from you and no one else
3. Have the Metroid flee to a place where you'll get to it before any of your opponents
Getting a winning lottery ticket is easier than this. And the insane part is, it's on the third row of the challenge board, meaning it's meant to be one of those you'll automatically get after a couple hours of gameplay. Look at my board. I have every challenge in the first eight rows, except for this one. It's sticking out like a sore thumb.
Oh, and let's not get into the fact that Smash Tour fell way beneath the full potential a Smash-based board game had...
This is reminding me of how much trouble I had on the Fourside event in Melee.
ReplyDeleteThough at least that was sort of skill based. Though the power-up selection does turn the tide of battle.
DeleteThe worst event in the entire series has to be the Great Cave Offensive one. It wouldn't be so bad if you could just clear it on Easy and be done with it, but no, there's a challenge where you have to beat it on Hard, and another one that has you do the reward conditions for every event - this one being the hardest, of course.
DeleteThe one where you have to heal Kirby with nothing but regular food item? Gee, if that one was supposed to be the hardest, I guess I shouldn't have quit trying to get every reward condition finally succeeding that one...
DeleteThe thing about that Kirby event is that you might as well play it on Hard from the get-go. You have to get lucky eventually, and wouldn't you rather get a reward when it all works out due to dumb luck? I've heard that inhaling the food with B restores a little bit more health, in case anyone keeps missing it by a few %.
DeleteTrue, but you can also play it on Easy just to unlock the next event, so you can at least go for the "beat all events" challenge.
DeleteAnd that trick you mentioned only works if you copy one of the Dededes. You better do it quick at the start, and sometimes they refuse to cooperate.
This is less likely than getting a Master Ball in the lottery! I should know. I got a Master Ball in the lottery!...
ReplyDeletei hammered that challenge and never looked back
ReplyDeleteit is just not worth the tedium of putting up with smash tour. I've known people who put dozens of hours into smash tour (mostly having it play itself, mind, but still) and never SEEN a metroid.
I got every other Tour challenge within 4 plays but I did not want to put it up with more than that, especially since it was the last CD I needed.
I have seen a Metroid yesterday, I even bumped into it the first time, but then it went elsewhere and an AI got the boosts. And just as an extra smack to the face, on another attempt I made today I was within one turn of getting the "start the final battle with 10 fighters" challenge, only to trigger a trap ON THE FINAL TURN.
Delete... Time to Golden Hammer?
ReplyDeleteWith 30 other challenges left to do, and I'm probably even less likely to do most of them than this one? Probably a bad idea.
DeleteYep. This and "Beat All-Star on hard as every character" are the worst. I put that one in the same tier as the metroid one just because All-Star isn't balanced properly.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky: I had a friend who could help me get this one. We both controlled 2 players, and just played over and over again until Metroid showed up. It took a looong time for one to even show up.
Whoever thought leaving 5-Volt in the Gamer stage during All-Star mode was a good idea needs to be fired.
DeleteOut of a cannon. Into the sun.
