The anime writers do their best!

Seriously, what's wrong with Japanese Pokémon episode names nowadays? It's like they ran out of words or something. Get a load of this:

Episode 852: Mobilize, Lapras Defense Corps! Bonnie Does Her Best!
Episode 859: Dedenne Does Its Best! All for Goomy!
Episode 868: Enter Wartortle and Raichu! Sliggoo Does Its Best!

All in a span of 17 episodes. They reuse the same idiom THREE TIMES in SEVENTEEN TITLES. Yeah. I don't think I need to add any more.

  1. Well, remember that the anime is now about "do your best" rather than the old "be the best". Guess that "everyone's a winner" camp finally had their way, huh?

  2. To be fair, what were you expecting from the anime?

    1. Just barely enough quality for the titles NOT to be corrupted by laziness. Guess I still had too much faith.

    2. Let's be honest, those aren't even titles. I wouldn't even count them as a newspaper headline, they're just terrible.

    3. Most Japanese titles are done in two parts like that though. You just don't happen to be the right culture to know that.

But anyway, your ep numbers are off. 852 is "Serena's Earnest! A Wild Meecle (Skiddo) Race!", 859 is "Aim to be Kalos Queen! Serena Makes her Debut!", and 868 isn't currently on Bulbapedia but Serebii has that, yes.

And yeah, I checked. I wanted to make sure the kanji and kana was the same, it might be the case that one person is being lazy with translating instead.

    4. But he's not complaining about the two part titles, he's complaining about the repeated use of "Blank Does Its Best".

    5. ... which he said could very well be attribute to a lazy translation.
Honestly, with subtitles translations theses days it seems that speed is taking over quality, so I wouldn't even be surprised it's the case.

    6. I need to learn to read. Then maybe I can stop making an idiot out of myself.

    7. And as for the numbers, I'm going off what Serebii has. If you look at his episode list, he's got 852 and 859.

    8. Having checked Bulbapedia, which ACTUALLY HAS the original, Serebii's 852 is 出動ラプラス防衛隊!ユリーカがんばる!!, Serebii's 859 is デデンネがんばる!ヌメラのために!!, and Serebii's 868 is カメール、ライチュウ登場!ヌメイルがんばる!!. The original language is different on all three.

This is a case of lazy translators, not lazy writers.

    9. So "doing his/her best" can translate into different things depending on the context, kind of like how the Inuit have 50+ words for "snow"? Gotcha.

    10. There's already ten to fifteen ways to say it in English, take that in a language with three or four written equivalents and that's the end result.

    11. What was translated as "Does its best" was "がんばる" which appears in all 3 titles in the exact same sentence structure, so I'm pretty sure it's still the case of lazy writers.

  4. Different note, but now we can check Auroros off the "HA unavailable" list. HA Amaura is an entry prize for another wi-fi tournament
