A pair of crazy SSB4 exploits

Both discovered this week, and both being so fundamentally stupid they NEED to get patched the hell out of the game.

Pac-Man's trampolineway to heaven

Little Mac ain't no air fighter... yeah, right

  1. Holy shit. I haven't heard of a big exploit in a Smash game since wavedashing, and even that wasn't a win-button like the Pac-Man exploit. Luckily, Nintendo has shown they aren't adverse to patches this generation. Did you know that Hyrule Warriors got hidden balance patches along with its updates? The Kokiri Spear was heavily buffed, for example. And Zant's Stomp-O-Death was nerfed, for some reason. Yeah, OK, not every patch makes sense.

    1. Zant's C6? It never did much from the start, so I had no idea it was even nerfed, or how anyone could tell. I know the Spear's C3 and special attack were heavily buffed, and Ruto's C1 and C3 were improved too. But yeah, I don't know how they could possibly nerf anything and have it NOT be sword Link or Volga.

By the way, Hyrule Warriors really is Koei, not Nintendo. So I don't think it should count.

  2. You know, one thing about these exploits, various bugs and such too is that before, Smash was a fairly stable metagame, physics wise, wavedashing was discovered as late as 2003 I believe, and was never really patched, always a part of the game since. Brawl always had meta knight as he was and the game was never patched. But now with patches, the metagame will be way more fluid, nott saying that the other games didn't have a changing metagame, but things like this could be gone as soon as the next patch and Mac could drop in terms of how people use him and change why he's used. Just a though

    1. I don't think Nintendo cares enough to undergo a huge balancing process. If they do anything at all, they're going to do the bare mininum, ergo get rid of these exploits and maybe, MAYBE, nerf Diddy. I wouldn't expect anything more though.

    2. It's actually all Sakurai, he generally has the most control over the game and Nintendo is just more about marketing smash, but yeah, he said it himself something about the patching going slowly and not doing major changes

  3. Maybe it was only an issue in the demo, but I think I remember that for the 3DS version, Rosalina could always easily get out of a grab when Luma was around. They soon patched it so that Luma would flail around helplessly when Rosalina would be grabbed.

  4. The pac-man thing is dumb. But the little mac thing shouldn't be patched. It isn't guaranteed, you can get out of it with smash di, and it is tricky to pull off. "Wow, something that tricky to pull off and you aren't going to see from anybody how isn't already a pro at the game, who would beat you without anyway.... BAN IT BAN IT" Oh yeah, when is life orb sheer force thing going to be fixed cause that certainly an exploit. No wait... That's a glitch. And sorry if there are typos, but am typing this dizzy because of my medication, but this kind of anti-competitive stigmatize pisses me the fuck off!

  5. That Pac Man trick is essentially a variant of the "Luigi Ladder" technique that has existed since Melee, though I don't know how effective the technique is nowadays. The technique is certainly going to be banned under the "no stalling" clause tournament wise.

As for Little Mac though... that's a very interesting discovery. It could lead to him going up a spot or two on the tier list and give him greater matchups against larger characters due to that combo.

    1. For Glory doesn't have such clauses as far as I'm aware, though.

  6. It reminds me of some of that bug in Melee where two Peaches would throw turnips at each other at the exact same frame, and the turnips would bounce off each other indefinitely and rise into the air.
