Hyrule Warriors or Touhou Warriors?

I knew the Twilight Princess DLC cranked the difficulty up to absurd levels, but I just heard the worst horror story ever. Apparently someone took a single hit from Agitha (AGITHA of all people), and lost TWENTY-THREE HEARTS. That's over double the limit for an A rank! IN ONE HIT! Of course trash mobs have absurd attack power too, being able to break Sheik's water shield in one hit. In a game where you're expected to be surrounded by dozens of mooks at any given time, this is ridiculous, at least as far as A ranks are concerned. There are even petitions to get Koei to raise the damage limit for A ranks, because unless you use Sheik, two hits from mooks and one hit from anything else and you're a goner. Did I mention you're not only supposed to have dodging skills worthy of the most sadistic bullet-hell games ever, but you're also still supposed to finish the mission with 1200 kills in less than 15 minutes? Suddenly I'm really glad I'm not this far in yet. Note to self: farm the everloving crap of the Master Quest map for materials to make defense badges with.

  1. I'm pretty sure defense increases with level as well as attack power, so perhaps people are just underleveled. I've only had one problem with damage in the TP map so far, and that was Volga in the second square doing 8ish hearts of damage per hit while his morale was boosted. I ended up taking around 28,000 damage total during that level. Otherwise, there's a notable difficulty and damage spike from MQ, but it's not something that's giving me too much trouble. I just think the map is designed for characters level 70+ at the least.

Also, I don't know if you've heard, but enemies in the TP map drop double materials, and there are certain missions that have you fight 'dividing' characters, and each enemy that splits off has a chance to drop materials. On the first mission like this I encountered, I got about eight Impa's Hairbands and one of her gold materials in about two minutes, and that's without Materials+.

    1. Nope, apparently health and power are the only things that increase with level. I'd experiment with it some if my characters weren't all within 15 levels of each other.

And yes, I heard about the double mats thing. It'd be really stupid if the high-end content had the same drop rate as the first map.

    2. Okay, just ran some tests with what I had. I had both my level 65 Link and level 50 Darunia take a single melee hit from a Lizalfos in the first challenge of the first map, and both hits did exactly 100 damage (there's no recommended element, either, so the results can't be changed by that). So if there's an increase in defense, it's not gradual, and occurs with level increments of at least 25 (even more than the level increments that give you hearts, so it's unlikely).

    3. In that case, defense badges must be very significant in some way, and they must apply to stages without a recommended element as well. I can't imagine any other reason why I'm not having as much trouble as other people. I'm certain that can't be chalked up to skill.

Have you tried Twili Midna out yet? I know you likely don't have the Spinner, but you really aren't missing out on much, and Twili Midna is BY FAR the best new moveset.

    4. And here I am... Once again actually thinking a weapon is surprisingly powerful when everybody else think the opposite...
The Spinner's attacks aren't as over the top as the other new weapons, but geez, I'm wrecking everything so hard with it.

    5. Twili Midna is incredible. Not sword Link/Volga broken, mind you, but definitely an absolute fiend. The Dominion Rod, on the other hand... urgh. So hard to use properly. There's got to be a trick to it, but I haven't figured it out. People are saying it's a bit like the Summoning Gate, but easier to use. I haven't unlocked the Summoning Gate yet, but I'm not exactly looking forward to it after hearing this.

As for defense badges... hmm. Let me try Ghirahim, every other character has the level 1 badges for every element, but Ghirahim has the level 2 badge for darkness.

    6. Nope. Even Ghirahim gets exactly 100. So on stages with no recommended element, you're SOL if you want defense.

    7. The Dominion Rod felt easily like the most overpowered weapon I've used in this game... I was praising the Spinner and all, but the DR is unreal. I felt like I was absolutely untouchable. Although I guess I'll see how it fares on the TP map before making my final judgement, but I sure destroyed the few maps I tested it on. (Each of gradually harder difficulty... and it didn't change anything of my performance)
Although I just remembered now that I didn't bring it to a map with a Boss fight yet, so... could be its weakness, but with the Axe Statue available, I doubt it.
And the Summoning Gate is indeed pretty hard to use, but more like you have to memorize perfectly what each combo does... Also, it felt kind of awkward to use on a solo target... Seems to be the problem I have with Fire-Elemental weapons except for the Fire Rod.

    8. Have you tried Volga's spear? That's the best single-target weapon in the game thanks to the infinite C2 loop and guard-breaking moves.

    9. And most other characters would kill for crowd killers like his C4 and C5. Seriously, I don't know what Koei was thinking when they made this guy.

    10. Yeah, I've only tried him once on the map to get his first Heart Container because I'm not at the Master Quest map yet... It's actually where I learned that Focus Spirit is actually more useful than I first gave it credit for. Heh... I'm still learning I guess. I just have an extremely short learning curve for the weapons nobody want to use, apparently. XD

  2. On topic, the timed part of that mission sounds absolutely awful. Being able to play it careful and dodge around is one thing, but having to rush and be careful at the same time is really difficult and annoying. Timed missions in just about any game piss me off to no end.

Off topic, but I wanted to know since the Grey Cup was yesterday. Do people actually care about the CFL at all. It was a real good game and the players seemed into it, but do fans have the same passion they do for hockey?

    1. Same as hockey? Not a chance in hell. Football comes second. It's not the religion it is in America, and it's not the religion hockey is in Canada either.

Anyway, I'd say the 1200 kills are pretty evil too. You could probably focus on wearing down officers and still complete the mission within 15 minutes while taking less than ten hearts of damage, but the fact that you have to use much of that time mowing down mooks (while officers are breathing down your neck most of the time) is a real problem.

  3. "Did I mention you're not only supposed to have dodging skills worthy of the most sadistic bullet-hell games ever"

Ho boy, I'm gonna have fun if/when I ever get this game and its DLC.

Coincidentally, I'm going through my first Touhou game right now (Touhou 6, in the event anyone was curious). It's actually pretty damn fun. Limited continues actually makes the game hard, but not frustrating, and being able to collect bosses' spell cards gives the game some replay value/gives the player an incentive to get good at the game/bosses, since you can only collect a spell card if you don't use a bomb, don't die when the boss uses the card, and beat the boss/get her health low enough in the required time. The only complaint I have is the bad art.

    1. The bad art improves in 12 (see Reimu's Art in 10 lovingly dubbed Zombie Reimu. PLAY 10 LAST, THOUGH). Besides, the art is hilarious. My favorite is actually 4, the introduction of Youkai moe, aka Yuuka. Anyway, Imperishable Night has even more there. You can practice Spell Cards and go through Last Words...

    2. Any reason why I should play 10 last?

    3. Kinda boring compared to the rest of the games if you use Marisa B and keep between 3 and 4 power, and Kanako is absolutely ridiculous if you start on Easy...

  4. A real Touhou Warriors would be AWESOME! Then again, I have a Touhou Temple Run and Flappy Birds on my iPhone. I LOVE TOUHOU!...
