You keep using that word, Koei.

I do not think it means what you think it means. It's the VERY END of a story, not what you call chapter 5 of 7.

Speaking of which, either the game glitched out on me, or it kicked me in the gonads by design. You know how you can rescue characters with low HP? Well, I was doing the second Valley of Seers stage earlier today, and the game would refuse to let me heal Zelda, no matter how low her HP got. And since her falling was a defeat condition... yeah, it was dreadful. I'll spare you the long version of the story, but I eventually managed to pull it off anyway.

Other question while I'm at it. Do I need to unlock Evil's Bane to get sword beams and all that other nifty stuff on the Master Sword? Because right now I'm not seeing anything. But hey, it's already way stronger than anything else I got, anything more at that stage would be utterly broken.

  1. I figured it out Slowflake

You see the first time one of your comrades is "in danger" stepping on the green circle heals them to full health, the second time they are in danger, it only heals half their health, and the third time, they won't let you rescue them at all, so that's probably what happened to you.

As for the master sword, I am pretty sure you can use the sword beams without evil's bane, but they only activate when you are at full health so keep that in mind, The boosted spin attack however can be used even without full health

Oh and sorry if you get a double post, the first one didn't seem to go through for some reason

    1. Yeah, that's probably it. The level was likely balanced for Link and the Master Sword, but I stupidly decided to go with Fi because I had a sealed skill to unlock and I was forced to use Link in the last two anyway. Also explains why Cia was hell to fight.

  2. Aren't the last 5 levels of 18 titled the epilogue? Yeah, pretty sure the epilogue can't be a third of the content. I think the prologue lasts for the first 3 or 4 levels, too.

I've never encountered the glitch before. I think the rescue system is really obnoxious to work with sometimes. So you can restore your allies HP to full just by being close to them, but it only works when they're at something like a quarter or less of their HP? Why? It often leads to situations where I have three options:

    1. Go to my next objective, and probably lose that character and the level.
    2. Kill all the surrounding enemies, potentially leaving the character at low health, but too high to heal. If I do this and he/she is ambushed while I'm across the map, I'll lose.
    3. Wait around as enemies beat the character up until I can heal them, then take the enemies out. I pick this option way too much for this to be good game design.

As for the Master Sword, the beams are unlocked right away, but as usual in the Zelda series, you need to be at full health. The reason you may not be seeing anything even at full health is that you can take damage without seeing it on your health meter (think LttP). You can take less than a quarter heart of damage, but you won't see that damage until you take more. Yeah, that's not very good game design either. The beams are also somewhat hard to notice, in my opinion. I didn't realize they existed until the second or third time I used the sword.

    1. Aha, I see. I was stupidly expecting regular attacks to have beams too, but it turns out it's just the combos (as it should be, mind you). I wonder what's better, the Master Sword or a level 3 Hylian Sword with great skills?

And levels 11, 12 and 13 are called the "epilogue". Out of 18, as you said. As for the healing thing, SARGON explained how it works, it's not a glitch. also explains why sometimes I heal for full HP and only half sometimes. At least it's an incentive to play better, instead of just healing your allies to infinity.

    2. The master sword is probably better. I don't think any skills in the game are as broken as the master swords skyward strike attacks. Those things have great range and are very powerful. I don't think I have even touched my hylian swords since I got evil's bane unlocked.

    3. It's close, though. A Magical Sword with 8 slots (7 after Legendary) is 450 power, 50 less than the Master Sword, plus it doesn't have the beams. But skills make a pretty significant difference, I've noticed. Slap on a couple of skills for combos you use most frequently, Light+ and some VS skills for enemies you'll be fighting, and the Magical Sword probably comes close. That kind of weapon takes a hell of a lot of work to get, though.

    4. One thing I don't really understand, though, is that are all Link's sword attacks light-elemental, or just a few?

    5. That I'm not sure about. The elements can get kinda confusing sometimes, like Agitha for example. She is listed as a light character, but some of her attacks are lightning while the rest are light.

    6. Haven't played as her yet, so I can't tell. Sheik is another good example, she has access to every element.

    7. Speaking of Sheik, have you played around with her much? She's easily one of the best, if not the best character in the game. Her songs (Strong Attack) change depending on your most recently used combo. The Serenade of Water (C2 (YX), followed by X) gives her a water shield that absorbs 4 hearts worth of damage and lasts five minutes, and can be reapplied at any time. This makes damage requirements in Adventure mode so easy. The Bolero of Fire (C3 (YYX), followed by X) is a fantastic boss weak point killer, and is really heavily damaging. The Prelude of Light (C6 (YYYYYX), followed by X) lays out a field of light that replenishes your special meter, enough to fill up at least two bars in about 10 seconds. Combined with her special (the best one in the game), she's the ultimate Imprisoned killer. She's ridiculously good.

    8. I've played with her a bit, but I haven't tried out her more high-level combos due to not having the badges. I remember not liking the Bolero of Fire all that much, though.

What I've been hearing as far as best characters go is basically Link w/ sword and Volga. But I can see Sheik being VERY useful, especially in Adventure Mode where you're rated on how much damage you take.

    9. At least with Sheik you know exactly when your using what element, unlike Agitha, or even Link. That's one reason why she is one of my favorites (along with the reasons ShadianVise mentioned)

Although I still can't figure out why Sheik is a lightning user when she has just as many moves with the other elements :/

Link and Volga are easily the top 2 characters, as well as the easiest to learn.

  3. Poor Serebii. Thinking Gourgeist can do anything but a defensive role. Even there, Trevenant does it better because its Abilities are actually good (Natural Cure and Harvest), but even Trevenant still fears the almighty Talonflame...

    1. I'm more concerned with them suggesting Phantom Force and Trick-or-Treat as viable moves.

    2. Trick-or-Treat, yeah. But at least for Trevenant, Phantom Force kind of helps with stalling. Of course, the set with Horn Leech is much preferred, but still...

    3. Screw Phantom Force, if you want to use a Ghost move that badly on Trevenant, Shadow Claw is the only way to go. At least you're not giving the opponent a free switch to something that resists it.

    4. To be fair, it does give an extra turn to Trevenant for Harvest, according to Smogon, so it really matters little if a Normal comes waltzing in. Of course, then it has to use Will-O-Wisp and its stalling moves of choice. When that's a non-issue...Horn Leech. For Ghost-type stab for non-Harvest, Shadow Claw. I really would recommend the set that doesn't depend on Phantom Force to guarantee Harvest...
