Explain Hyrule Warriors' elements to me.

Okay, so I know every enemy has elemental weaknesses or resistances. What I don't know is, does every attack from every character (aside from Sheik and Summoning Gate Lana) carry its respective element (but only the explicitly elemental moves, like, say, Giant Blade Impa's C4, have the added effect), or only those explicitly elemental moves? And if it's the latter, what does sword Link's Light element even do if he has no visibly Light-elemental attack, and what would Light+ do for him? Does anyone have any idea? I've been seeing so much conflicting stuff it's crazy.

  1. The only thing I do know from in-game explanations is that Fire element is for AoE attacks and Fire+ increases its range of effect further, Water create some sort of waterblight thingy which causes continuous damage and Water+ increases the damage for said blight (or make it last longer, I don't remember), Light increases your weapon's power when comboing multiple enemies at once (Link's gauntlet, for example, the one holding his sword, will start glowing) and I'm not sure whether Light+ makes it easier to activate it or just make it more powerful. While finally, Dark does mostly the same as Light, but only if you combo the same single enemy instead (with Dark+ doing the exact same as Light+ I think).
They explained Lightning too, but I don't remember it all that well for some reasons... I think Lightning elemental attacks can go through guard better than other elements, but I'm not sure.
Like I said, that's what I found on one random tips loading screen in-game. The briefly explain each element in it and checking out what the elemental skills do by pressing X when selecting a weapon also gives strong clues... Been like a week since I played Hyrule Warriors though so it's already a little bit fuzzy in my memory.

    1. Lightning allows you to do more damage while the targets are still in the air.

Anyway, I already know about the added effects and that they're given to explicitly elemental attacks, I just want to know if resistances and weaknesses apply to every single attack from a given weapon. For example, I know for sure that Fi's attacks will all have the added effect for a while after using her C1, but do I still get extra damage against enemies weak to light even when the C1's effect isn't active?

    2. And by that I mean extra damage from the weakness, not the added effect. I get both after the C1, I know that much.

    3. I honestly don't know. My only observation is that when I learned that several LPers used Midna in the Twilight Realm stage I checked that out of curiosity and all of them had trouble with it, while personally I remember using Lana and didn't seem to have nearly as much trouble dishing out damage as they did.

  2. As someone who has played 120+ hours so far... Idunfuckinknow. No idea. Well, Element+ skills tend to add more damage, in my experience, as well as hitting enemies with that weakness harder (Redeads are weak to fire and light, I believe, and Lizalfos are weak to water). I know they all have unique effects (the most noticeable is water, which does constant damage and can sometimes interrupt attacks), but I don't have any idea what most of them do. Fi and Midna definitely do more damage after using their C1, which is one of the reasons they can be annoying to use (especially Fi, since she's so weak that it's almost necessary to refresh her light meter every few seconds). Fi also gets some extra range on her attacks with light imbued.

For the most part, I ignore elements. I'll try to use recommended elements when I can, and I like the Element+ skills for the overall utility, but I haven't noticed elements making enough of a difference for me to care.

Here's an extra tip: Zelda with the Wind Waker has a sort of 'wind' element going on. It's not official, but it does have an impact on battles. Many of her attacks will drop little pink 'clouds' or will attach them to enemies. Her C1 will send out a bunch of mini-tornadoes, followed by a bigger one that you can control. If you use the bigger tornado to pick up the pink clouds, the tornado will get bigger, and I think you can upgrade it twice. The biggest tornado is a real crowd-clearer, so it's worthwhile to learn how to use that attack.

  3. Looks like nobody has really figured out the ins and outs of the elements :/ It might be a while before we know for sure

  4. In Europe the release of Super Smash Bros. for WiiU was moved back to the 28. November, so now it's going to be released on the same day as OR/AS here as well. And under my videos people actually think this is a good idea...

  5. I haven't played Hyrule Warriors, but I have played Samurai Warriors on the 3DS, and if the two games' elemental mechanics are similar, then the elemental properties have a random chance of triggering on any given attack or combo.
