I honestly did not expect this. No sarcasm.

So Primal Kyogre and Groudon do NOT get perma-weather as their abilities. I am genuinely surprised. Instead, what happens is that their special weather overwrites "lesser" weather conditions and cannot be overwritten by them (presumably they can still cancel each other out though). In addition to the normal effects of rain and sun, there are bonus effects which prevent Fire and Water moves respectively from doing anything - making Primal Groudon effectively immune to Water. Suddenly making it Ground/Fire is a stroke of genius, all that's missing at this point is Flare Blitz. Primal Kyogre doesn't care as much for Fire immunity, but hey, it was already vastly superior anyway, so no complaints. As for the duration, those conditions last for as long as the Primals are out, but fade away immediately upon switching out, preventing them from being as outrageously broken as they could be.

In my opinion, this is still an improvement over the regular abilities despite the potentially shorter duration, because with the weather nerf Kyogre and Groudon used their weather abilities for their own benefit much moreso than for passing it around anyway. And let's be honest, this is so much more interesting than just the return of perma-weather that it isn't even funny. Still, Kyogre didn't need the buff at all. Not even remotely close.

  1. Well, they're semi-permanent. They won't go down as long as Primal Groudon or Kyogre are out, but they go down as soon as they switch.

  2. Still gonna replace Xerneas vs. Mewtwo with Kyogre vs. Groudon...

  3. Mewtwo? Kyogre's already more used than Mewtwo as it is. Arceus is the name you're looking for. And besides, Groudon may have an actual shot at being useful if it's immune to Water.

    1. I assumed Arceus would always be number 1, and the raging battle is for second in Ubers. Really depends on Primal Kyogre and Groudon performing well. To be fair, Groudon can take the Extreme Killer set a bit...

  4. I can see Primal Kyogre and Groudon being used a lot in Doubles and Triples. You know, on the rare occasions they're allowed. Granted, you're sacrificing a Mega Evolution slot, but still. As for singles...Yeah, it'll be Kyogre vs. Groudon with Arceus caught in the middle...

    1. True, but you're forgetting it also gets a huge boost to special attack, not to mention more speed and defense.

    2. To Charizardoreo: That would be WHY Kyogre didn't need a boost. It was just given one to sell games and because the Kyogre fans would be jealous of Groudon. Still gonna be an interesting beast...

  6. According to the offical website of Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire perma weather does occur ON TOP of the other advantages of their ability. So Game Freak seems to overpower their ability badly
