A Banjo-Tooie LP? What was I thinking?

I don't know if it's because I haven't done LPs for so long, but the more I think about it, the more I think picking Banjo-Tooie for one was a terrible idea. Not because it's a bad game or anything, but because it's so much slower than the first one in terms of pace, everything's so massive, I would spend all my time going to the same places over and over again, as opposed to the original where most levels could be entirely done in two or three parts. I was well aware it would take an insane amount of planning to keep the downtime to a minimun, and I guess I felt up to the challenge when I was LPing, but... would I have managed to make a Banjo-Tooie LP watchable? Others have tried, and those who succeeded were vastly superior to me as LPers, and probably had more dedication too. So I feel it's another way in which I picked the perfect time to quit, lest I went into territory that was way over my head.

  1. Lag issues? It has nothing to do with lag issues. It's just the sheer amount of crap to collect that forces you into constant backtracking.

  2. Oh, and Canary Mary. Can't forget about her. Not only is she insanely tough on her own, but what kind of commentary could I provide while mashing the A button to the point of exhaustion? I guess I could've just copped out with post-commentary for this and this only...

  3. I'll agree with you there. Banjo-Tooie is a very difficult game to LP properly, and it doesn't really lend itself to watching. Then again, you always made the Pokemon games watchable, and RPGs are notoriously hard to LP well (actually, many of the things you did [keeping battles in, showing every bit of content] are not considered good ideas by the core LP community, but you made it work through sheer interesting commentary). But then again, Pokemon lends itself well to commentary thanks to news frequently coming in. The lead up to gens 5 and 6 gave you a near-infinite amount of news to report and commentate on.

  4. Well seeing that most 64 emulators don't like Banjo Tooie I'd say you lucked out for that reason as well. Then again your Wind Waker LP was pretty accurate despite being an emulation of a more powerful system so maybe that wouldn't be as big of an issue?

  5. I wanted Call of Duty Black Opps 2 with Chugga myself as the LP after White 2 myself. Cue to one making corny puns and one actually providing commentary.

  6. Did you ever consider doing any blind LPs in your LPing days? If there's one game I think that would have been really awesome to see you do a blind LP of (provided you had the means to do it), it would have been TLoZ: Link Between Worlds. Fantastic game that I cannot praise enough.

    1. I've repeated many times that it was out of the question.

    2. I really don't get the obsession with blind LPs. I can't stand them; LPs go long enough as it is, why do I want to watch it at least double in length because the player has no clue what they're doing, with a half-hour straight of someone flailing about aimlessly and running out of things to say because he's too lost to do anything but it's a blind LP so he can't do the reasonable thing and just GameFAQ the thing. It's bad enough some LPers play games familiar but unresearched/practiced so they spend random bits lost and confused, and their blind ones when done are even worse. Sorry but I don't have the free time to watch someone wander around in video-game land when I have better options.

    3. That. Why do people like to do blind LPs? They're always bad, yes, this does mean Pokemon Sapphire by NCS.

    4. Yeah, pretty much. I don't (didn't) want to spend two hours playing just to give something like ten minutes worth of worthwhile content.

  7. Well, I think the idea is to cut out all the bits that don't have interesting commentary. Like, if you wander around for two hours, you don't actually show all that, but instead jump to some time later and say "Ok, so after TWO HOURS, I finally figured this and that out!".
