Breaking news: Serperior doesn't suck anymore

No wait, it still does. Nevermind this, carry on.

    1. Some people in the TSG chat were adamant Serperior could fight its way out of a paper bag, so an argument happened. Because honestly, Serperior is objectively bad. How can anyone not come to that conclusion?

    2. Given that Contrary is stuck in the Toy Crane Machine and Serperior is all out of quarters, it's going to suck forever. I'd wager that even with Contrart, today's meta would make roadkill of the snake, complete with tire tracks.

    3. Don't say that. Leaf Storm Contrary is scary scary shit, and even in a game where Scizor exists he can't take too many before he can't switch in safely.

It may not be OU - I'd say it could have done it in Gen 5, but the power just ratchets up and now Mega Pinsir and Talonflame... uh, exist - but that thing's going to be amazing in UU. You know, IF THEY EVER RELEASE IT.

    4. Entertaining thought: Contrary Serperior would've taken a wild, ferocious dump all over Swagplay.

    5. Klefki used Swagger!
      Serperior's Attack fell sharply!
      Player: "FUUUUUUU-"

  2. Contrary was released!?

Oh Slowflake, you troll, you. As a side note, I still know Contrary as Perversion, because I like that ability name better, heh.

  3. Sadly it is the only unusable starter in-game. All the others have something going for them at the very least. And don't try to tell me about Aqua Tail in BW2, still not enough.

    1. (Sarcastically) "WHAT?! Aqua Tail isn't enough for you to consider Serperior as usable, even though it only has 75 base Attack and therefore still can't really hold up against most Fire types without Light Screen and Coil(since a competent Fire type would be able to survive it)?!"
Seriously though: What is G.F. thinking that stops them from making Contrary available for Serperior? Unless a non-legendary Pokémon has a near perfect or perfect movepool, high enough stats, AND an acceptable ability, a defensive Grass type can't possibly hope to be much of a threat unless the opponent sucks.

    2. "Unusable" and "Ingame" are two words that never apply in the same context in Pokémon.

I have beaten Sapphire with only a single fucking Skitty. I have won with Unown, Farfetch'd (IN GEN 1), unevolved shit, evolved shit, utter shit, shiny shit (as cool as that Shiny Beedril was...), and I have done this in Nuzlocke format and still not lost a mon. You people who would say that just need to, to coin a phrase, "git gud".

    3. @Mattman324 I've beaten many Pokémon game with only 1 or 2 Pokémon that have terrible movesets(Smokescreen and Swift, anyone?). My comment was in the context of competitive battling. I know Serperior isn't unusable in-game, but that doesn't mean I would like using it often. I didn't say it was completely useless no matter what; Brandon did.

    4. I was referring to Brandon's comment about it being the "only unusable starter ingame", though.

And Smokescreen/Swift are two reasonable options for a few pokemon in Gen1 and 2 that have next to nothing in options (Typhlosion with Fire Blast/Flamethrower/Thunder Punch/Smokescreen is something I do... uh, somewhat often, and Swift has seen some use as a filler move). Not something for an endgame mon that has lots of options on its natural list and reusable TM list, but in the old days those were really, REALLY rare (I'd say Starmie, but then Ice Beam/Blizzard, Psychic, and Thunderbolt WEREN'T reusable in Gen 1)

  4. Sadly we don't have Serperior's non-suck form yet.

  6. Slowflake, Amnesia boosts Sp.Def because the user forgets its other concerns, allowing it to focus on defending itself from an attack- since Special Attacks seem based on the mind rather than physical strength. Think "emptying the mind" zen sort of thing.

    1. Heh, will we ever get any form of Deoxys in OU for a prolonged period of time? It seems like we've been talking about them for the last five years, and every gen it looks like they might not be broken anymore, but they always turn out to be.

    2. Every time people say "Oh, Deoxys D is just Shuckle with a really good movepool and better HP, it's not broken!" And every time they get proven wrong.

I imagine one day they'll finally not be banworthy.

  8. I keep checking this blog to see if you made a post for the epic gravy war of 2014 but find nothing. I guess you'll talk about that and more after the marathon. #TeamWhiteGravy
