Who knew Gamefreak liked hidden meanings?

Since this morning, people have been wondering, why Alpha and Omega? Well, seems like the answer was right under our noses all along.

This is Team Magma's logo:

Looks pretty normal, right? But if we highlight just a bit of it...

Mind = blown. And this is where Omega Ruby comes from. Or maybe it's just a bizarre coincidence. Still looks kind of peculiar in retrospect, don't you think?

Alpha Sapphire is a bit more obvious:

Team Aqua's logo looks like an uppercase A, which is identical to the uppercase Greek letter "alpha". And it bears a passive resemblance to the Green Wisps from the Sonic series, though I'm not sure there's any connection worth making.

But still, that hidden meaning in the Magma logo. Wow.

  1. Interesting discovery, though I still wish they went with something else for Alpha Sapphire. That's a mouthful and doesn't flow well at all.

  2. Okay, time for me to heavily analyze rayquaza's design and find it's greek letter! I'll totally succeed! Then I know we'll have Team Ozone plotting to dissolve all land and sea and turn the planet into a gas giant! ... wait.

  3. Bloody hell. That's been under our noses for 12 years and it's only just been figured out. I'm fucking impressed, Game Freak.

  4. Groudon and Kyogre also have the Omega and Alpha symbols on their arms - they're highlighted in the new box arts :3

    1. Yeah, but those references I brought up have been around since 2002.

    2. No, that's what I meant - when the games first came out in 2003 they had the symbols on their hands; the new box covers just highlight what was already there

    3. I don't know which pictures you're watching, because on mine there's no omega symbol on Groudon's hands.
