Kyogre and Groudon to get new forms or megas?

The Pokémon Company mentioned that the Pokémon on the box art were "never before seen Pokémon", the same expression used to refer to Kyurem's alternate forms and Mega Mewtwo Y when they were first released. This suggests Kyogre and Groudon will get either of the two treatments. Much to the dismay of uber players everywhere, I guess. Kyogre and Groudon don't need anything extra, dammit!

Still, I wonder where this is going. My personal theory is that regardless of what happens, they're going to get abilities which function just like Drizzle and Drought used to in gens 3 through 5. And while this would be a huge blow to an ubers metagame that somewhat freed itself of perma-weather's stranglehold to an extent, didn't it come across as sketchy to anyone else that Politoed, Ninetales and Mega Charizard Y could summon weather automatically in the same way those two super-powerful legends could? My bet is that they're trying to do something about that.

  1. If they decide to bring back permanent weather this would be the way to do it. But, personally as an uber player I like the gen six meta right now. For once kyogre isn't the powerhouse everyone uses. Now it's power herb xerneas.

    1. Kyogre is still a nuke. It's just slightly more manageable if you can survive five Water Spouts. And it's really a contest between Arceus, Xerneas, and Mewtwo. I guess Xerneas would be the 6th Gen Kyogre...
Personally, I like Groudon, so if it gets back to permanent Sun, it could become more useful...

    2. You are right. Kyogre is still very powerful. I think that is is a good idea to allow permanent weather in ubers as long as it stays there. i don't want to see it in ou anymore. Teams that were weather based became to cookie cutter and that led to a less varied meta. At least in ubers there is not a large reliance on rain or sun.

  2. There's a lot of speculation about the new Mega's and new forms for many pokemon, not just Kyogre and Groudon.

A lot of people think that Swampert and Sceptile will get Mega Evolutions. While this does makes some sense in that Blaziken has one but not those two, it also doesn't in that the guy who found Mega Lati@s and the event legendaries should have found those Mega's in X and Y's code at the same time. The same argument can be said for Kyogre and Groudon gaining Mega Forms.

However, the idea of Kyogre and Groudon getting new forms is more believable. It wouldn't be the first time that they've added forms to a pokemon. 8 pokemon so far have gotten new forms in the same generation that they were unveiled (( Rotom, Giratina, Shaymin, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Kyurem and Keldeo )). I question whether placeholder data for alternate forms for Kyogre and Groudon has been found in X and Y's code though, but I think datamining is still not fully there.

It would make sense to give any new forms of Kyogre and Groudon permanent weather abilities given their lore. Though if Kyogre and Groudon gain new forms, I have to question, will Rayquaza gain another form as well? If it did, then the Uber meta game could be completely ripped apart by the weather trio becoming even more devastating.

On the subject of Rayquaza, it's one of those pokemon I'm surprised didn't get a Mega Evolution. Rayquaza is one of the most popular legendary pokemon there is and has come first in some noteworthy polls.

  3. Yeah, they look different. I agree with you I wish they would give them to pokemon who need them.
