HOENN CONFIRMED!!11!!

...you know, it's actually a lot less fun once it actually happens.

Anyway, I'm really surprised, they didn't even try to hype up the announcement or something, like they do for minor spin-offs nobody cares about.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm probably going to give this a miss... last time I played a Hoenn game, which was my LP run, the sea routes almost broke me. Not going through that again.

  1. But maybe they'll make the sea routes a lot less... dreary. You never know, they might add more land sections to the sea routes and throw a few new entirely land routes in to make it less tedious.

  2. Is that REALLY the reason you are going to miss Hoenn remakes. I must say I am DISSAPPOINTED.

    1. Why? Because nostalgia is supposed to trump all somehow? Let's be honest, after the way Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos spoiled us, I can't go back to an age where obsolete regions were still the norm.

    2. So just wondering, what made you want to play HGSS?

    3. HGSS salvaged Gen 2. Maybe Gen 3makes might do the same.

    4. Yeah, but gen 3's issues are a lot more complicated to solve without touching the core of the game. Gen 2 just suffered from general sloppiness.

    5. I don't want to sound like one of those Hoenn fanboys, but there is still a chance that GF can salvage Gen 3. It's a very slim chance I'll admit, but after B2W2 surprising the hell out of everyone anything's possible.

    6. "New world" could be something.

  3. Putting it that way, maybe I should consider this one very hard.

  4. Ah, Ruby and Sapphire were the games back in the day that convinced me to stay with the franchise when I was considering leaving it.

It'll be nice to see what updates they have made to the game.

  5. No!!!! Now the fanboiz will be going to 12!....annoying people aside, I will likely buy 'em at some point since I skipped Gen 3 first time around. Keep in mind they probably will have the move tutors in there, so...yeah. So what shall the fanboys rage for now besides a Wii-U Pokemon Stadium-esque game?

    1. Eh too early. Then you'd have to remake Black and White since it was the same system. I guess Kanto remakes again...Now when the 3DS' successor comes around that's another story altogether.....

  6. I never thought this would happen.

  7. HOEN CONFIRM'D!!!!!!!....... oh, you blogged on it before I could annoy you about it first. Darn.

Well, the names are a choice I didn't expect. Omega ruby and alpha sapphire? Why greek letters? Then what does rayquaza get? Pi, Theta, or some other letter in between? Oh wait, there was no water blue, so there's no excuse for them to give rayquaza a greek letter of it's own since there will be no [greek letter] emerald version.

The box arts strongly suggest new mega evolutions abound in this game. I guess we'll get weird stuff like Mega Blazikenite Alpha and Mega Blazikenite Omega while swampert and sceptile get shafted with plain old swampertite and sceptilite.

What if one of them is fire/dtragon and latiaziken actually becomes a thing?!?

Still waiting for venustoicinite for my grass/water venusaur mega evolution, btw.

I'm looking forward to any new main series game in this generation no matter what it is, because the 3Ds's potential to update game cards mean we'll potentially get new content that's patchable into X and Y. Mind you, that would be giving game freak a lot of credit. I mean, a whole bunch of credit, especially to expect stuff like new pokemon, but dangit I'm hopeful. This is Luvdisc's native region. They've been planning this all along and they'll introduce the mechanic to evolve luvdisc into alomamola and the incense to make alomamola have luvdisc eggs!

I am firmly expecting every region in one game and an ambitious ingame co-operative mode over wifi so all my hopes will be dashed and slaughtered and I will curse gamefreak with a black plague and a flood of my tears when the game is released to the market in november and doesn't meet any of my unrealistic fanboy fantasies.

    1. Won't need a third Greek letter because they only make two versions for the remakes...

    2. Don't you remember Mind Crystal and Sterling Platinum?

      Delete
    3. I think you mean Sun Yellow. That one was kind of meh, honestly. Now, if we could make it into Touhoumon...

    4. Trolling aside, even if they don't exist, I can still think of names like "Water Blue," "Lightning Yellow" (everyone's favorite remake right there), and "Mind Crystal." Whatever's left for a tagname to a hypothetical emerald remake is a random pick. Beta emerald? Glitches ahoy!!!! less than alpha sapphire, though.

    5. There should be a pokemon Pink version starring clefairy replacing pikachu's role. There's excitement to build it up now that there's a fairy type. Think of the potential! We'll get to see the alternate reality where the anime is about Ash and his overpowered clefairy that refuses to have a moon stone used on it! It's genius! GET ON IT GAMEFREAK.

  8. Well, I'll buy the game with Groudon. And look on the bright side: They'll probably bring back the Battle Frontier (glorified Battle Towers get boring after a while. I'd rather at least have the Battle Pyramid). On the not-so-bright side, they'll be bringing back contests and the guy with a Master's in creepy, Scott S. Stalker...
And the Hoenn region was pretty nice when you weren't being annoyed by the half region of water (admittedly, that did hamper the experience). And hey, the potential of new Mega Evolutions is a nice thing...

  9. Wouldn't you want to get the gen 3 remakes for the move tutors if nothing else? Or are you a simulator only when it comes to competitive. I don't blame you for skipping it though unless they do some real adding to the story from the third version like they did in hg/ss I feel like emerald would be superior to the 3ds remakes even.

    1. Simulator only, indeed. I was planning on going after the Battle Institute achievements pretty soon... I may have to rethink that.

  10. I find the gen 3 games the best for a casual playthrough, for what its worth. I've tried with a bunch of strange teams and its pretty good. Can't see myself buying the remakes. I find all the fun of the older games is having a different ruleset. Gen 6 already did a great job with the current mechanics, why buy another game just like it?

  11. Gosh guys, this is the saddest I've ever seen anyone get at the announcement of Pokémon games! Cheer up! BikdipOnABus made an interesting argument on something simple they could do to make those sea routes less annoying: giving the trainers more varied Pokémon. The Undersea trench section could be made a bajillion times better just by having better camera angles. If there's a real possibility of a rejuvenated Battle Frontier, then I would be sold already. The music I felt was really interesting for the Hoenn games, and there is plenty of room to have some truly great remixes (I just can't wait to hear the new and improved title screen music).

If I were trapped on a desert isle with just one Pokémon game for the rest of my life, it would for me be a toss-up between Emerald version and Soul Silver version. Now there's the possibility of having the best of both! ...just... :D

  12. Slowflake as always the most reasonable opinion. If they don't fix the water routes...

    ReplyDelete
  13. So let me get this straight, you aren't buying the game because of the sea routs????
Do you consider Emerald bad because of this?

    ReplyDelete

    1. It aged about as badly as you could possibly expect a game world to. Let's be honest here, with Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos all existing, why would I settle for Hoenn?

      Delete
    2. Today I decided to play emerald again, and I got board and just stopped playing BEFORE I even got to the sea routs, so I guess you're right about hoenn not having aged well, but I still will buy one of them to see If they can make hoenn less boring to travel through.

    3. Better idea: wait a few days and see whether they actually did something before wasting your money if they didn't.

(Unless leaks start coming up 11 days before release again, then we'll probably know everything inside and out on release day.)

  14. FR/LG were not the best games in the world, and even worst as remakes. But HG/SS were amazing. There is no reason why Nintendo will disappoint us with a Hoenn remake, after all, they know every inch of flaw. But what can I say? No matter what, you can see knew features the day of the release which I predict will buy you. They will make Hoenn better.

    1. True, but there's only so much you can do to relieve the boredom of unending sea routes without giving Hoenn a huge makeover. They didn't need to do so for either Johto or Kanto in HGSS, it was all about the little things that added up quickly. This is an entirely new beast, and I really don't want to set myself up for a crushing disappointment. If it was just minor details like making May and Wally more relevant, it'd be a lot more simple, but it's not.

  15. But, they could make the new Hoenn take place 11 years after the old one which was RSE, Something they didn't do with FR/'LL AND HH/SS. In which case it would be acceptable to change a good amount. Maybe Groudon will have created more land, on the water routes. Who knows.

    1. That could happen if it were a sequel, but it's a straight-up remake, so don't get your hopes up.
