A wild suspect test appears! Baton Pass!

Unsurprisingly, a proper suspect test was the result of Smogon's discussion thread on the matter. People who meet the voting criteria will have to choose between three options:

1. Do nothing
2. Limit the amount of BP users to three per team
3. Combo ban it with Speed Boost or Magic Bounce

Right now there's a consensus that seems to be crystallizing around option 2, which I definitely agree with. Full Baton Pass teams have been tearing up everything at the top of the ladder recently, to such an extent that Mr. Mime, one of the common-yet-not-ubiquitous members of such teams, isn't very far away from making OU, just because it wrecks sound move users and Dragon moves so badly, and can cheese really hard with Encore to boot. Make no mistake, outside of these teams Mr. Mime is absolute garbage. Full BP teams are THAT good.

At the same time, option 3 seems excessive, because even though Scolipede and Espeon are mandatory on such teams, they can also use BP very well on teams that DON'T have it on every last Pokémon, while not tearing everything apart either. Heck, BPing Speed Boost is the only reason why Scolipede would get any use at all even with option 2, so it's quite understandable that most people seem to gravitate around that one.

If you want some insight on the cookie-cutter team that's been wrecking face for several months now (without featuring a single mega to boot), make sure to read this.

  1. I've been ignoring the competitive scene for a bit, this is the first I've heard of this strategy. Interesting how these take awhile to be discovered.

    1. It isn't as self-explanatory as Mega Kangaskhan or Blaziken, to be fair...

    2. Actually, these teams have been a thing for a fair amount of time - the big reason why they've gotten so much better in gen 6 is because Scolipede is infinitely better than Ninjask at what they do. That, and Sylveon is just so freaking deadly.

  3. Mandatory VikingBaitBilly comment saying we can't chose option 2 because how else are we gonna make crappy Pokémon pull off "miraculous" sweeps against terrible players.
If it wasn't for the fact that I'm so uninterested in actual trolling, I would be actually learning stuff from him.

    1. Nah, my style is using stallers like Noctowl and Probopass that the foe would assume are bad to make them ragequit...... after passing a few Acid Armors and an aqua ring to them first.
