True statement of the day

"How would you like if you adopted a pet from a shelter and they didn't let you change its name because its first owner called it "Asshat"?" -NicoCW

You all know what I'm talking about. And even if they do fix it next time around, it will have taken at least TWENTY YEARS to get it right. Unacceptable. (Don't get me wrong, though, better late than never.)

  2. I think the logic they're using is more along the lines of Pokemon being sentient beings as intelligent as humans, and the 'owner-Pokemon' relationship is more like a partnership than anything. A trainer catches or hatches a Pokemon and 'names' it as they get integrated into human society, and since Pokemon have equal status to people in this world, the name they're given is the name they stick with. They're completely different from pets in this regard.

It's bullshit from a gameplay perspective, though.

    1. I've always subscribed to the idea that if it's bullshit from a gameplay perspective, it should never be integrated into the game no matter how much it makes sense in the game's universe.

    2. The splendid monkey king that lived in the mountain of flowers and fruit who wreaked havoc in heaven allowed his Buddhist master to rename him Sun Wukong, "Monkey awakened from nothingness," because he was his new owner. That's the real world logic pokemon should have.

    3. That or they go by the logic that animals (like dogs) tend to only answer to a certain name if they're trained under that name, and it's hell to get them to answer to a new one. At this point, some Gameplay and Story Segregation would indeed be really nice...

  3. I'd rather have it late as well. And by 'late' I mean 'now'.
