Mega Lucario and Genesect banned, Deoxys-E remains

Can't say I'm surprised by this outcome, either. The percentages, on the other hand... Well, not Mega Lucario's staggering 94% score, in fact I wouldn't have been at all shocked by a unanimous vote. Genesect also barely snags the supermajority needed, with 62%. I thought it'd be closer than that, but hey, thing's evil as all hell to face.

The surprise, however, is Deoxys-E getting a whopping 37% score. Yes, a Pokémon that's not even used enough to be OU still had three voters out of eight wishing to give it the boot. Furthermore, it's commonly accepted that the reason why it paid for itself so well was its synergy with Mega Lucario, and everyone could see that the latter's days were numbered. They were probably thinking that it'd work just as nicely when paired up with top-level sweepers. Will it? We'll see. Still, the fact is that it's hard to pinpoint how it'll go down with Mega Lucario gone, so at least go with the "wait and see" approach. Which may explain the huge number of abstains, which aren't counted in the final tally - because if they were, Deoxys-E would've barely broken 30%.

Also, it's worth noting that the rules changed a bit since last gen. Back then you needed either two straight majorities in a row or one supermajority of 66.6% to get banned, however now a supermajority of 60% is required for a ban, and anything below doesn't count in any way, so scoring 55% four times in a row would still not result in a ban.

  1. There's only 8 voters? I thought it was a big committee.

    1. There were over a hundred. I meant three out of eight in the statistical sense, you know, as in 3/8 is about 37%.

    2. Ah, that makes more sense.

  2. Well I had a feeling about D-Speed not getting banned
Overall Luke-Mega's Adaptability just helps HJK be too powerful, and also Bullet Punch, and Mach Punch, and Aura Sphere, I mean, look how hard Adaptabillity helped Pory Z's Tri-Attack
TLDR:GG No re when Mega-Luke's around

    1. Nitpicking time: Close Combat is Lucario's physical Fighting move of choice, not HJK (which doesn't even appear in the stats). I can see why, that 10% chance of your super-broken sweeper committing suicide is just not worth it.

    2. Oh I see, people dislike the chance of losing half your health, even then with CC it's a BP 240 move, I mean damn

  3. Thanks to M-Lucario being banned, is there any Fighting type Pokemon who can rise up now?
    Infernape?
    Terrakion?
    Keldeo?
    Medicham?
    Or will Conkeldurr reign supreme?

    1. Probably Infernape and Breloom, since off the top of my head these are the only other OU Fighting-types right now.

      Or, you know, vanilla Lucario.

    2. Probably a shame on me for not paying attention to the usage stats, but is the fairy type really crippling the fighting type that much? I knew it had a big hit on dragons obviously, but from what I could tell it hasn't hurt the dark type much (probably as it's now helped by not being resisted by steel and wasn't around in such high numbers as it were)

    3. Yeah, the Steel nerf actually did wonders for Dark-types, especially Bisharp, so being weak to Fairy didn't matter that much. But yeah, Fighting-types were hugely crippled by Fairies. When the likes of Terrakion and Keldeo are down in UU, you know things aren't as they used to be.

    4. And just to be clear, a whole bunch of stuff was quickbanned to BL, and these two are NOT among them.

    5. Damn, yeah so many medium-to-high OU (maybe a few Ubers or had-been ubers) going down to UU or worse BL from looks of it. Not surprised at fighting, it really had nothing good against it (mono-psychic is too hard to use, SR means few flyers outside the kami trio, ghosts didn't do double damage) but with a new weakness that is also cripping the over-saturated dragons fighting had nowhere to go. Still surprised a tad about dark, I remember thinking how crappy it was that it got another weakness when the type itself was limited but being able to neutral-hit steel types really helps. Ghost got the same bonus I guess but I don't see too much movement with the old ghosts (at least not upward), not compared with dark anyway. Now we just need to give (mono-) psychics (not named Alakazam) a reason to be used again....

    6. I would've said Fairy should've been weak to Psychic too, but then there still would've been no reason to use Steel or Poison moves, because Psychic, while meh, was nowhere near as bad.

    7. I guess what they said about Today's OU can be Tomorrow's UU is true.

    8. Personally I think they should get rid of steel's resistance to Psychic. I know it sounds crazy since that was one of the reasons steel came to be but let's face it, it's only super effective against fighting (with fairies why bother) and poison (ubiquitous steel and ground does wonders on them), and doesn't even resist the latter. Dark types keep it in check as it is, and they are still weak to ghost and bug. After all the most used psychic BENDS STEEL SPOONS! Plus it would nerf steel a tad more (on that note, I less strongly think electric should be super effective against steel...makes sense I mean water is weak for the same reason, and electric doesn't have that much going for it as it were).

    9. By the looks of it, I think Conk will remain supreme. Not complaining.

  4. Overall I'm not surprised, except by one thing: Why would they change the way they vote on this simply because we changed gens..?

    1. The official reasoning is that they didn't like the potential statistical errors caused by simple majorities.
