Best idea ever or worst idea ever?

One of the most famous phrases in Quebec's political folklore tells us it's not a good idea to have three pairs of hands on the same steering wheel. Well, how about thousands of pairs of hands on a (nonexistent) Game Boy playing Pokémon? I'm amazed it took only two days to get to Cerulean.

Edit: As of this writing, Pokémon Red/Blue is the second most popular game on Twitch, and this stream is the third most popular behind two LoL streams. Which is surprising - they've been on route 9 forever, I'd think there would be much ragequit over the lack of progress.

Edit 2: And not only is it now the most popular stream on Twitch, but in the game department it's not getting totally wiped out by LoL either. I thought for sure it would be the victim of its own popularity, but so far that's not the case.

  1. I tried typing "power" but sadly it had no effect. It's so painful to watch.

    1. I find it funny that that they already have more gym badges than the Game Grumps.

    2. If only they allowed more than one button combination... "a+b+start+select Kappa"

  2. I have so much fun pressing start whenever everyone makes progress

  3. This... This is hurting my head. I need to lie down now.

  4. How many days will it take for them to solve the Vermilion Gym puzzle? Place your bets!

  5. Good point, not sure how to classify this. Clearly an idea from hell, but so devious that it's enticing......I can't watch for more than two minutes though (FSM helps us when they spend five minutes stuck in the item menu during battle). Still better than watching a noob play it and constantly saying how much his video sucks because of his failures (hint: if you know it sucks, then play better or stop recording).

  6. They got the cut hm. But before they can even hope to get to the trash cans they must cut down the Tree. And they can't just walk up and press A to cut it......

    1. However, teaching cut seem to be an endeavor itself.

    2. 5-7 hours to teach cut, 10 minutes to cut the tree. I didn't expect that at all. I thought cutting the tree would be a lot harder that teaching the hm.

    3. Trash can puzzle was done 5 times faster than teaching cut..... Wow

  7. Sadly, I can only watch the stream for 5 to 10 seconds before it crashes on me. Guess I'll be missing out on the fun. I really need to get a new computer... but at the same time, I'd rather spend my limited money on more Nintendo games I really want...

  8. This would probably be a little less painful if it weren't the massive twenty-or-so second delay between inputting a command and it doing something on the stream. There's just no way to anticipate what will be needed 20 seconds in the future with this amount of sheer chaos!

    1. The longer you watch this, the more and more it seems that reality is slipping away, that everything is meaningless, that Nugget and Helix Fossil...and...CUT......

  9. i can't even imagine things like strength puzzles, or ice puzzles being completed. and i thought it was annoying when one person tried to backseat game... i can't imagine having almost 14 thousand of them.

  10. I'd like to see two of these twitch plays pokemon streams battle each other

  11. So... the progress is now relatively smoother because those in charge decided to do something against those who spam the Start button so it won't work unless several people input it at the same time I think... Not sure it's really how it works, it's just how I interpreted it. Doesn't stop people from selecting the Helix Fossil or the Nugget during battle all the time apparently, though. I wouldn't know since my connection sucks so much I can't watch for long before having to catch up and reload the stream.

  12. Well they just taught Rattata Thunderbolt. This is going to be a long fucking game. That said, I hope the guy doing this keeps checking in and modifying the setup to deal with the 20k assholes who may or may not be working to get this going.

  13. Of all the places to get hung up on, who would have thought it would be Route 9? If you thought that the START spamming was bad, just a single DOWN will send Red down into the pits of never-ending despair for all eternity (or at least until thousands of people suddenly decide to agree on something).

    1. We could probably beat the entire game in the time it takes them to get out of that.

    2. "Game"? That's an odd way to spell "series".

    3. The good news: They got past that stupid ledge.

The bad news: They lost to a trainer and were sent back to the Pokémon Center, so now they have to do all that again.

  15. Okay, how did they make it through rock tunnel?

    1. Asking how they got through the Rock Tunnel is like asking how the chicken crossed the road. They simply walked from point A to point B. It's not like they needed to use Rock Smash at any point.

    1. Pfft, you think they'll even get that far? The Safari Zone will be the end of this little project. I'm amazed that they even got past route 9 and the Rock Tunnel, but getting to the secret house in 500 steps is as likely as me winning at the lottery.

    2. Yeah, they'll blow all of their already very small amount of money in there and since there's no VS Seeker in Gen 1... They'll be all screwed. A good group of trolls could try to make them buy tons of Coins in the Game Corner.

    3. I didn't even consider financial issues (especially since I never run into them), just getting there in time would be virtually impossible, but with a finite amount of attempts on top of that...

    4. Well, the streamer said that he would remove the entry fee if needed.

    1. Look closely at a map of route 9, then consider how easy it is for trolls to just spam "down", and the implications it had.

  19. What's the worst about this is the sheer number of impostors it has spawned. Just look for yourself http://t.co/fvFOSiS0Ch .... As if there weren't enough garbage streams on twitch as it were

    1. Streamers are playing copycat, and I can almost guarantee that some game developers are soon going to exploit this mechanic. If nothing else, the Flappy Bird "phenomenon" reminded us that there are always those in the gaming industry that try to ride on coattails of the latest fad.

  20. The new place for the trolls to get in the way... the Team Rocket HQ. On top of that, EVEN NCS is getting involved, though not as a troll thankfully. Want proof? Here: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BgtAAKZCUAAXgsU.png

  21. Today's summary: a case study in Murphy's Law. They released Abby and Jay Leno, Eevee evolved into Flareon, and there's no end in sight to the Team Rocket Hideout's tile maze. The consensus seems to be that the Dome Fossil is to blame somehow.

    2. Dome Fossil? Like because they should have picked up the Dome Fossil instead? How are they blaming the Fossil they didn't pick up exactly?

  22. Wow. That was the greatest moment ever. The chat FINALLY beat Giovanni, so now we can move on with our lives!...which is what I would say except that Rattata used Dig to escape before they could grab the Silph Scope. Great job! Truly!

  24. If this stream has taught me anything, it's that the trainer battle music overlaid with the low health beeping is the worst sound ever. Maybe there is some truth to the tale that Lavender Town has music that can drive you insane... For reference: http://youtu.be/JWTJRLW6uRM
