The Xbox One is almost here...

...and lately I've been seeing a lot of "it's not so bad now that Microsoft reversed their controversial policies". And honestly, I'm surprised. I mean, sure, the Xbox One absolutely looks like a better product than back when it was first announced, but... am I the only one who's concerned with the way Microsoft approached the whole thing? And by that I mean the fact that Microsoft saw absolutely nothing wrong with the always-online, anti-used games, mandatory Kinect aspects of the console, and didn't mind spilling the beans before anyone had any idea what Sony's approach was going to be. That is some scary shit when you stop and think about it. They honestly thought they were great ideas. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has issues with that.

  1. It was definitely a huge mistake on Microsoft's part, but to be honest, this seems like the year for horrible launches. There was GTA 5 online which had huge issues for quite a while, from what I hear the new Battlefield has been practically unplayable for PC gamers, despite them being the biggest player base for that game, and then there was Microsoft with their Xbox One policies, though luckily those were revoked before the actual launch.

    1. That last one wasn't technical difficulties, though, it was corporate suits thinking they could do the most insane crap and get away with it.

    2. Yeah, it definitely does stand out from the others, since Microsoft actually thought it was a good idea, unlike the other two which were by accident. But I'm honestly interested to know who's idea this was to begin with, and if he/she still has a job at Microsoft.

  2. Hell, Microsoft already let their consumers know exactly what they think of them ("these idiots will buy any shit we put out, lol!!!"), so even after rescinding their statements on the Xbone's less popular features anyone with half a brain ought to remember that and NOT buy any more Xbox shit. Just boycott it.

    1. Yeah, especially since many (not all) of the people buying it are the same idiots who were complaining about the Wii U having a bad launch due to "lack of games". Though I'll be the first to admit the Wii U didn't launch with anything that interested me personally, I think it's unfair for these people to complain about the Wii U launch and then support Microsoft despite their horrible mistakes before the Xbox One was even out.

  3. I'm with you cosidering Microsofts policies about the Xbox One. Last generation I had all three consoles, the Wii, the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. I now have a WiiU and I'll fetch myself a Playstation 4 sometime next year. But I WONT buy an Xbox One! I mean just because Microsoft has been shitstormed to oblivion and they were sure everyone with to braincells would buy the PS4 they decided to change a few things. That doesn't mean that those aren't the same people who want your money right and back and I'm sure once you have the console they'll try what they can to get that money

  4. I'm thinking that this might be the last console generation anyway and they might be dying out. I mean, I just don't see the Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One being nearly as successful as the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 were, and handheld gaming (whether it's handheld consoles, mobile phones, tablets, etc.) are gradually getting more and more popular and beginning to overtake consoles.

    1. I think the PS4 could do exceptionally well, actually. Consoles aren't dying out because they're consoles, it's just that Nintendo and Microsoft shot themselves in the foot so much that there's no foot left, it's all lead now.

    2. I dunno, I don't mind the Wii U. The fact that Nintendo seems to have a hard on for Mario right now bothers me, I admit, but honestly the console itself isn't so miserable.

Speaking of that, I could see some game types being awesome on the Wii U. New Star Fox property? Good F-Zero property? All potentially there.

  5. My main beef whenever I hear people say "oh, they reversed all their controversial policies, herp derp!" is that they did it RIGHT AFTER E3! Literally everybody around the time of the conference was hoping Microsoft would address the concerns people had about the console itself, but no! Instead all we got was GAMESGAMESGAMESGAMESTVSPORTSGAMES! Not a single word about the console itself or the policies that got people so riled up about it during the entire conference. As the final nail in the coffin, Sony capitalized on the fact that Microsoft was just pretending the xbone's problems didn't exist by pointing out that the PS4 wouldn't have ANY of the dumb crap people heard the xbone would have.

Microsoft waited until E3 was over and most of the people who were on the fence had hopped over to the other side before telling the handful of people left that "Oh, yeah, all that dumb invasive and restrictive crap you heard we were doing? We take it back!" ...Not even that, though--they thought they could just throw games and features at the audience to try and make them forget everything they heard about the xbone beforehand, and when that didn't work, only *then* did they think to actually change their policies! Quite honestly, they missed their chance to make things right, even if they DID eventually fix their shit. Quite a few people didn't even know that Microsoft had changed their policies because they stopped giving a shit about Microsoft after E3 and decided to just buy a PS4 or WiiU. Because of that, the xbone will always have the stigma of microsoft's pre-conference policies, and that will inevitably doom it.

  6. I'd like to point out that there's nothing to stop them from patching in their original intentions for the XBone project 6 months after all the idiots buy the damn thing and re-enforcing all the stupid rules they had in place. :|

  7. I still see a massive amount of favoritism for the PS4, as you can see with recent GameFAQs polls (though they're just a small sample of the gaming population, obviously). People haven't forgotten when the Xbox One was the Xbone.
