Event-only O-Powers + No Zygarde in official tournaments

This post on Bulbagarden gives details on both of these things. Level Max O-Powers are only obtainable via events, with Experience and Bargain being distributed at Jump Festa. The interesting thing is, instead of just having an even bigger effect than level 3, they have the same effect, but last for a full hour! Remember, it takes 40 minutes at most to go from empty to full, so you could potentially use this for permanent double experience, among other things. If it sounds broken... well that's why they're event-only, right?

On the other hand, we have something far less interesting. As it turns out, despite a paltry BST of 600, Zygarde will be banned from official tournaments. Three words: ARE YOU SERIOUS? I can sort of understand why they banned Kyurem-N last gen, even though Zygarde will probably turn out to be MUCH better (I'm referring to Kyurem-N's actually impressive BST here), but Zygarde? What do they think is so exceptional about it? Sure, it has Dragon Dance and Extremespeed when Garchomp could only ever dream of having them, but it definitely doesn't have "game breaker" written all over it like some of the mega evolutions do. Furthermore, its ability does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in OU. So, I ask again, WHY?

Oh, and Item Clause is still on, even though it's been over a decade since it stopped being a good idea. Brilliant, guys. Just brilliant.

  1. Or just a blanket ban on mascot legendaries.

  2. Where is your videos about horrible pokemon gen 1 sprites? I can,t find them on youtube anymore. They were so good and funny. Has you taken them away? If you have, why?

    1. Partly because of all the trolling that was going on, partly because they sucked. Hard.

    2. What trolling? They was good and funny to me and my freinds even if you hate them. It wouldn,t matter if you uploaded them again anyway,

  3. Doesn't Nintendo just ban all cover legendaries? Sure, Zygarde's not technically a cover legendary yet, but it's definitely the third of the XYZ trio. Nintendo doesn't do suspect testing like Smogon does, they just ban Pokemon that are 'supposed' to be powerful. I'm surprised some non-cover legendaries are allowed, to be honest.

    1. They fall under what I like to consider "Nintendo Standard Rules". In those rules, the 'cover' legendary pokemon and event legendary pokemon are banned regardless of whether they're overpowered or not. The same is true for Item Clause. That's been part of the "Nintendo Standard Rules" ever since Pokemon Stadium 2 for the N64 so they're not going to change that.

Honestly, I really don't mind the Item Clause. Having Item Clause puts a limit on how many pokemon of each role you can have on a team. You can only have at most 3 bulky pokemon (( 1 with Leftovers, 1 poison type with Black Sludge and 1 with Eviolite )), 1 Life Orb sweeper, maybe one Mega Evolution and 1 wild card. There are other variations you do, such as with Choice Item users and the other various items. You're not short on useful items that can help a pokemon out. And don't forget about the herbs. Those are actually used, though not often. For example, on X I use a White Herb, Shell Smash, Baton Pass Gorebyss, which is a case where White Herb is a very good item.

    2. Well you said it yourself, there's no shortage of good items. Item Clause exists because of gen 2, which is the only gen where that wasn't the case. You had Leftovers, Chesto Berry, Lum Berry, and that was it.

  4. My guess is that they're just banning it now because it'll be getting an extremely good alternate form/Mega Evolution later on in the generation. They're probably just banning it now to avoid confusion, as stupid as some, myself and you included, think that is. Why not just ban the alternate form we'll inevitably get like how they just ban Soul Dew but not Latios and Latias? Hell if I know. That's probably why we Kyurem is banned altogether, rather than the one form that is ACTUALLY overpowered. But why am I trying to make sense of this? These are the people who decided that Mew would just completely overwhelm any player but Tyranitar, Garchomp, Thundurus-I, and Excadrill are a-okay.
This is completely irrelevant other than it being about how weird Gamefreak can be sometimes, but I was thinking about how Gamfreak seems to be pushing this strange idea that Tyranitar and Aggron go together for some reason. Making them version exclusives and having them having them both get mega-evolutions (which were also revealed together.). Yeah, like making them version-exclusives isn't screwing one set of players over at all. It's like that Shiny Dratini vs. Shiny Gible in B2&W2 all over again except that Aggron and Tyranitar are even less comparable.
