Event Pokémon confirmed: Diancie, Volcanion and Hoopa

I was planning on talking about something else today, but I guess this'll wait, because boy I have huge news for you! Serebii made a colossal blunder that was found out today, which revealed the name and typing of the three gen 6 event legendaries. You know the location details pages he has for each Pokémon, such as this one? Well, someone tried the experiment of replacing the Pokémon number in the URL with 719, 720 and 721, and lo and behold, the pages existed. For a while anyway, because they were taken down since then.

Now, how do we know that these are real? Simple: we use the new GTS function that allows us to ask for and look for any Pokémon we know the name of. If the name doesn't exist, then it's rejected. And as it turns out, the GTS accepts these three names, so we know these are for real. We've known for years that Serebii has access to juicy insider stuff that he's not allowed to share, but still, how hard can it be to program your site so that these three events aren't acknowledged at all until they're released? When you think about it, this is kind of weird.

Even weirder is the fact that he has catch rates listed for them. Maybe they're filler data that were the result of a copypaste job and he just didn't delete them because we're not supposed to see that stuff, who knows. But if they turn out to be real, then it means he's holding out info that doesn't need to stay hidden on us. Stuff like egg moves, catch rates, new stats for old Pokémon, which he's giving us in tiny bites on purpose to look inconspicuous. Fortunately I'm not one for tinfoil hats, so I'm not going to sling mud at him, and even if that was the case, well, if he wants to keep a working relationship with Nintendo and friends, he pretty much has to do stuff like this.

As for the Pokémon themselves, literally all we know is the typing, which definitely doesn't look like filler data since, well, Volcanion is part Fire. Speaking of which, I think we've all wanted a Fire/Water Pokémon for a long time now, and it's about time we got one. Really looking forward to seeing its theme. As for Hoopa... well, the name doesn't exactly fill me with hope, except for the fact that it's Psychic/Ghost, which doesn't at all suggest some lamewad Pokémon, especially since it's an event legendary. As for Diancie... Rock/Fairy, same as Carbink. Let's hope it's a good bit better, shall we?

  1. I'm also interested to see what Hoopa is. I see that name, and I see Hoppip, and that makes me sad. The Fire/Water typing is very interesting, I wonder how that type will perform in practice. It's weak to ground, rock and electric, three of the most common and powerful attacking types, so while it's cool in theory, I imagine it will be more frail than expected.

Has Psychic/Ghost been done before? I can't think of another Pokemon that has that typing. I wish GameFreak would focus more on giving us some unique typings, that would be cool to me.

    1. I still want an Ice/Fairy, Vise. I totally do not want that just so I can nickname the Pokemon Cirno! Honestly! I am totally not being sarcastic right now!...

  2. Well that is interesting indeed. As an FYI I wouldn't worry too much about the catch rate. Whether it was legit or a placeholder, keep in mind all pokemon have one even if you can never catch them legitimately in the wild (they need one in case one glitches in or is cheated in, as without it the game would fuck up)

    1. Even so, if Serebii knows their catch rate, then he should know a lot of other stuff that's not on his site yet. Something to keep an eye on, I guess.

    2. Oh I wasn't commenting on whether or not it was legit, just that their having a catch rate is unremarkable on technical grounds but is something indeed if Serebii knows it for fact (perhaps I misread the post?). Of course, if he does know it the question is how is he privy to such specific info when we don't even have egg moves yet....

As a segue, apparently IGN is getting on the Hoenn remake bandwagon.... just what we need. Idk, if they redid it they'd have to change a lot to make it interesting (like, more interesting regional Dex and add something to the infinite water routes of tentacool/protect-pelipper doom)

  3. I'm kinda surprised no one bothered to try the whole URL thing earlier...

    1. Apparently, it only worked for the location pages, not the Pokédex itself.

  4. Awww...still no Ice/Fairy. I was looking forward to naming such a Pokemon Cirno...
Hey, at least it is not limited to Pokemon you have in the Pokedex anymore. GOD, that was annoying...

    1. Tornadus and Reshiram are easy to hack in those games, though (by that, I mean in a way that you can trick the game into thinking they are legit). Especially Tornadus. Just make sure it is the proper level, then proceed to catch on any route. Reshiram, just go to Dragonspiral Tower and set to Level 50. These days, I use PokeCheck, though...Now, Events you missed, on the other hand...Yeah...
Oh, and hacking will be complicated at best this Gen. Suddenly, you appreciate the changes so much more...

  5. I'm really hoping Serebii does have all of those stats and moves that we can no longer find out through datamining. Even if he does have to release it in dribs and drabs, it is a damn sight better than having to rely on speculation for simulator play.

Also, I'm pretty stoked to see a fire/water type finally. No 4x weaknesses and a decent potential STAB movepool on both the physical and special sides (assuming it can learn them). I just hope the design is awesome

    1. Good thing Weather was nerfed. If it were not, then we would face quite the dilemma...

  6. And it'll take like two or three years until we actually see them. *sigh*

    1. Yeah. Seeing what kind of visual tricks Volcanion plays with steam would be awesome.

  7. I always wanted a fire/water flaming scorpionfish. Now I'll just keep holding out for that ice/fire macaroni penguin and the grass/fire chilli pepper.

  8. Hey Slow, can we add each other on 3DS for the friend safari?
