Nintendo, your definition of "special" doesn't match mine.

From Bulbagarden:

Taiwanese players of Generation V games will be able to obtain a special event Pikachu between August 15 and August 20, in Hall 1 at the Taipei World Trade Center. The Pikachu is a Level 100 female and knows the moves Thunder, Volt Tackle, Grass Knot and Quick Attack. It has the Event Ribbon, and its held item is the rare Light Ball. The distribution will run each day between the times of 10am and 6pm.

Ergo, there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SPECIAL about it. Not just that, why don't they distribute something people might actually want? Why has it ALWAYS got to be a goddamn Pikachu? At least you can go places with an Eevee...

(Quiz question: what's more insulting, an event Pikachu with no special moves, or an event Pikachu with an utterly useless special move?)

  1. All of the above. There's never anything special about an event Pikachu, no matter what moves it gets. Who cares about Pikachu nowadays? Where's the demand? I don't like the idea of mascots in general because of exactly this. The series just gets stuck in a loop of self-referential bullshit that adds nothing to anything.

    1. What if they make an Ice Punch/Ice Beam event Pikachu one day, though? Sure, it and Raichu still would suck, but suddenly they'd be so much better.

    2. Pikachu with Bolt Crash, Ice Punch, Earthquake, and... oh, Swords Dance I guess.

Suddenly, Pikachu can be a bigger outright threat, and Raichu can... well, it can do SOMETHING other than Nasty Plot and pray. Granted, SD is just as unwieldy, but maybe Game Freak will be kind and give Pikachu Extremespeed naturally (which is a move it can use well...

  2. I just hate event Pokemon that are easy to get anyway. Why not something decent or rare? Doesn't have to be legendary but I guess that cuts what you can have by a bit.

  3. The former. At least with the latter, it would have something different, even if it is a shitty move.

  4. There's always going to be a market for Pikachu considering the following it has among the casual fans. As long as that market is there Pikachu will continue to be distributed and it won't ever stop. There's certain to be 6th gen distributions of Pikachu, especially to give it Surf again.

  5. The former would be more insulting because I can just catch one in SoulSilver and breed it in Gen 5 until it gets Volt Tackle and other moves (though neither has a use for it, so it would not be useful). That would be assuming I wanted to go to the trouble. Knowing me, I would just evolve it, breed it for the Pichu, and leave both to rot in my PC. Also, they may as well confirm MegaPikachu/Raichu. We are all pretty sure it will happen...

    1. I'm looking forward to MegaRaichu being a big ball of suck.
