Is my lack of upload schedule a bad thing?

I've been wondering about that, especially since many big YouTubers have one, and tend to catch hell whenever they don't stick to it, no matter how valid the reason is (and in some odd cases like RoosterTeeth, even when they DO stick to it). Now, don't worry, I don't intend to change that, because imposing myself an upload schedule would mean it'd start to feel more like a job, and it's at that point that the fun factor of doing LPs starts being drained away.

The question I want to ask, though, is this: is the fact that I can potentially upload a video at any given time on any given day, or not upload anything at all for a few days without prior notice, a problem for you, the viewer? Or do you just not care?

  1. Considering I'm a fan of Bikdiponabus and Protonjon's Superman 64 LP, at this point, I just don't give a shit anymore how often people upload.

  2. Not at all. People who hold themselves to update schedules are trying to make LPing a job to begin with, so if it's just something you do for fun you don't need to copy them at all. (If you don't upload for a few days for some specific reason, like going on holiday or whatever, it's nice to know the reason in advance, but you already do that so that's okay.)

  3. Nope, I don't expect anything from you.
It just happens to make my day better when I see you've posted something, that's all.

  4. All I expect from you or any LPer is knowledge that more content is coming (or isn't, in the case of hiatus or similar). When or how often depends entirely on the producer of said content; there are enough YouTube channels that if it takes you long or short to upload something, I can watch something else in the meantime.

  5. It's never bothered me, not for anyone. Who cares, really? We know we're going to get new content at some point, and really, we're not entitled to anything from you. You're not doing it for money or subscribers, you're doing it for fun.

  6. Does not matter what we think, as you will keep doing what you feel is best. However, I am subscribed to ProtonJon as well, so I know what it feels like to have someone I watch take a long time to upload a video...I am used to it...

  7. Ditto to everyone so far. As long as you don't lead people to believe you will upload regularly, there's no problem at all with making videos as you feel like. (I'm looking at you, JayO!) I personally tend to subscribe to people that upload no more often than two or three times a week, unless there is a project that I'm particularly interested in. I have a set of channels that I periodically check too, but don't want them clogging my inbox. I guess I also get burned out by just watching someone every single day.

  8. Not at all. After all, YOU decide when to upload a video, not the viewers.

  9. I feel like upload schedules actually decrease the amount of content that someone puts out. Like you said, it makes the person feel like they are doing a job rather than doing a hobby that they enjoy. In your case since you do upload pretty regularly I would say that I look forward to an episode of something every day, when you go a day or two with out posting anything I am a little disappointed, but that just means I'll be twice as happy the next time you upload something. For someone who does not get paid to do what you do I think you deserve some kind of award for consistency .

  10. Better if the quality of the videos is better because you enjoy what you do, rather than the content deteriorate because you lose the joy of LPing from having to impose a schedule. I subscribe to many channels with upload schedules not set in stone, and sometimes it takes a pretty darn long time for their next video to come, but I still enjoy their content. I guess that really is what matters most to the viewer, given the flexibility of what Youtube provides for both the viewer and the content creator.

  11. You tend to upload at about the same time every day, taking into account whether it's a weekend or not. And you upload most every day.

    So no, I don't care.

  12. As others said, so long as warning is given if it will be more than a couple days (hiatus, vacation, personal obligations, etc) a strict schedule isn't necessary. Personally I don't see the big deal about uploading at the same time every time, though uploading time does determine when I'll watch it. Unlike others, though, I don't really pay attention to someone who is inconsistent and uploads semi-regularly then is unseen for a week or two, rinse and repeat. [I actually have long stopped paying attention to ProtonJon]. There has to be SOME regularity so that a regular subscriber can at least know roughly when to expect it. Just too many other channels out there to wait on an unreliable one, you know? Not that you have that issue, but if someone is consistently uploading FSM knows when, odds are I'll probably miss that they uploaded something at all 'cuz I won't be looking for their channel. This goes for LPers and non-gaming related channels alike, though. So tl;dr I don't expect an upload schedule, but the more reliable the uploading frequency the more likely I am to watch it.

  13. Not a problem for me either. I always marathon your let's plays when they are finished so I don't care when the next episode is out I just care when the last episode is out.

  14. I have a tendency to wait for you to upload videos over a period of days or weeks, then I watch them all in one big chunk when I feel like it (usually up to the point you go on another TSG hiatus), so nothing wrong with what you're doing.
