Chespin and Fennekin final forms leaked?

Normally I don't post about news that have the potential to be fake, but quite frankly, should this be fake, it's at least done well enough for me to at least point it out. Unconfirmed concept art for Chespin's and Fennekin's final forms has emerged on Tumblr, and while we have no clue if it's real or not, I still like the look of it. The parallel between Chespin and Oshawott, if true, would hold up rather well, to the exception that Chespin stays bipedal all the way through, while Oshawott's line was screwed out of Ice Punch and other such moves. And, needless to say, Fennekin DOES look like it might evolve into a Fire/Psychic, especially since it was confirmed to know Psychic to begin with.

I'd also like to point out that Servine and Dewott also were leaked through concept art several months before BW1's release, so a repeat of that is perfectly doable.

(Also, here's a zoomed-in version of Chespin Mk III's colored picture, just because.)

Oh, and what about the ghost sword Pokémon, you may ask? Well it definitely looks cool, but I'm wary of getting excited too quickly. I remember the last time I got hyped over a Steel-type pre-release... it did NOT end well.

  1. Ghost sword says to me either Gen VI's answer to Cryogonal or one half of a Hitmon/Throh-Sawk duo alongside a shield.

As for the leaked evolutions of Chespin and Fennekin... nah. Chespin-evo is believable, but Fennekin-evo's tail looks way too much like a turnip being shoved up its arse.

    1. Well we've already had a starter who looked like it had an entire tree being shoved up its ass, so I think it's fair game.

    2. If there is a shield pokemon as a counterpart there could be a third pokemon of that group, which is based on a suit of armor. Then if all three pokemon are in the party and the armor pokemon levels up, all three combine into one very powerful pokemon based on ghost knights. Of course, that's all speculation as to where it could go.

    3. Those are some pretty cool ideas, and I'm even more excited for Gen VI now. I'm really hoping Fennekin turns out to be Fire/Psychic, and it may end up being the first fire starter I've preferred since Blaziken.

  2. The sword is based on Durandal, a legendary French sword. Why else would Masuda be gushing about France and then suddenly bring up this pokemon? Man... playing Marathon turned me into such a nerd.

  3. Apparently the sword's English name is Honedge. The way I think it's supposed to be pronounced, a combination of 'hone' and 'edge', it sounds just like pwnage. Haha.

  4. At the very least, the sword can troll Fighting types to Hell and back...

  5. Well, people have been asking for a ghost-steel typing for a while now. It looks pretty darn interesting. One thing I noticed is that Honedge learns swords dance (if it DIDN'T, then I would be genuinely angry), suggesting that it might be a physically-based pokemon. But looking at the current atteckdex, what moves could it learn to capitalize on that? The best physical ghost moves that exist at the moment are shadow claw and shadow punch (unless you count shadow force, which I highly doubt they'll give it), and I dunno... something seems weird about a sword pokemon using claw and punch attacks. I guess there’s shadow sneak as a viable move that doesn’t seem out of place on it, but unless this thing is secretly Scizor in disguise, it needs more than a base 40 power move for STAB options! Based on that, I think it's very likely that there'll be a new physical ghost move in gen 6, preferably one with at least 80 base power to keep up with shadow ball on the special side. It’s a similar case with steel moves—there are a lot more of them than physical ghost moves, but not many of them fit a floating sword pokemon. What do we have now? Bullet Punch? Iron Head? Meteor Mash? (another punching move) Again, SWORD POKEMON. If Honedge is going to have ANY decent STAB options, then they’ll have to invent at least 2 new decently-powerful moves for it.

On another note, secret/sacred sword would be REALLY neat to see on this thing :D

  6. One last thing I noticed is that Game Freak seem to be in love with ribbons in this generation. First Sylveon, then "Mewthree" and his head-tail, and now Honedge! Guess they're really trying to do their best to show us that this game is IN 3D~!

  7. A mild correction, but Servine, Dewott & Woobat were leaked not by concept art but by a height reference chart for the anime.

If these are real, I think it marks the first time actual honest-to-god concept art/design documents were leaked. & in such high quality (the height reference was very blurry, iirc; some people thought the Woobat was a Koffing) as well
if real it makes me wonder how they got a hold of these you know?

    1. Yeah, that's slightly more impressive than getting info from a noisy beta tester, because beta testers don't have access to that stuff.

  8. Honestly, if it turns out to be true, even though it does share some color with Shiftry, it makes me scared that Chespin will stay mono-Grass, or even worse, gain a Normal typing. (Though I guess Sawsbuck wasn't all that bad...)

    1. I dunno, it might look Grass/Dark-ish. You know how long people have been wanting a Dark/Psychic/Fighting trio...

  9. Fennekin's Final evolution looks pretty cool but it's design looks sorta like a cross between Sawsbuck (Winter Forme)and a shiny White Kyurem so I'm not quite convinced if it's real. Then again that cross between Magmortar and Rhyperior was real so there's that...

  10. Delphox sucks! Froakie is looking better and better... Still doubt there's any hope for Chespin. Quilladin? What were these people smoking??
